Share your history of feeder/waterer setups pros and cons?

I know a lot of people use acv in their water. Can you use acv with the nipples being metal? I read that acv will rust the metal. I’ve been using plastic and when my chicks get older I plan on using acv in their water.

The Nipples on mine don’t drip much that I can tell. They are cheap and come in a big pack so I would expect some lemons. I put 4 per bucket.

Was it difficult to train the chickens to drink from it when you first implemented it?

with *ducks* I learned not to put the water too close to the food. Or you will have mash that can grow bacteria and what not

Not really. I just poked all their beaks in the nipples to show them it was water then took the other water source away after a couple days.

Holds the whole bag of feed, off the ground, no mess, no mice, although the only reason we don't get mice is because it's inclosed with 1/4in hardware cloth that's buried along the perimeter

I believe that are are few to no benefits (and certainly no 'miracles'), other than making the keeper 'feel good'.
I believe it is over-touted and misused/misunderstood.
My only source is careful and long time reading here for 10 years,
and my own logic and pragmatism.

Perfectly fine, and I respect this.

I believe it to be beneficial, but my dissent to your opinion would only be supported by the my same logic and experience (less reading on BYC of course)

All that aside, I do agree - entirely, nothing miraculous about it.

I have always had the port gravity feeders, little to no waste and when their empty I pour the dust into a rubber bowl and make a mash. I recently added a hanging feeder but that will be for all the grow outs (lots of chicks this year) I probably won't use it after they're gone. As far as watering, I started with the cups but they get super gross really fast so I switched to nipples. I have a 5 gallon bucket in the run with nipples on it, and another 5 gallon bucket outside the run on a little table, it has a 6ft garden hose attached that connects to a 2ft long peice of pvc pipe with nipples that is screwed to the outside wall of my coop.
