Get a Genesis..I now have 2 and I LOVE them. I think they are about as "set it and forget it" as you can get in the bators. $160 shipped from Cutler's.

I have a 1588 Little Giant (?????) and I've had great hatches in it for over a year. I turn eggs myself in it. I try to keep the temp as close to 100 degrees in it and it's worked fine, no spikes ever. If the temp gets low a bit, I just drape bubble wrap over the window. Might add a regular lamp if needed. I also have an rcom 20 I bought a few months ago. It keeps temps steady with no messing with it. I did have to calibrate it in the beginning so that 100 degrees was reading 100 degrees. But I put my brinsea spot check in there for a few days and it's steady. But it only holds 20 eggs. And now I use my 1588 for the last 3 days.

Oh yea, my best hatches have been with the temp 99.5 to 110.0, and the humidity around 37 %, then around 70% the last 3 days.

Had an LG and couldnt regulate it worth squat. I seriously just want a low risk model that is going to help me brood expensive birds. I lost the other 4 olives, my MF and my mix from Natalie. I truly believe it was the darn temps. So I dont mind investing in something lower risk for a better hatch. Sem... 99.5 to 110??? Typo much???

Congrats on the silkies! May they all hatch!!

What do you use for a candler?

Made it-coffee can-with a lamp cord and regulare 75 watt light bulb. I cut a piece of wood in a circle to cover the top of coffee can. Made a smaller circle to cradle the eggs in the middle of wooden circle and duck taped it on can. The cord comes out the side bottom of can so it will sit flat on table. Plug it in and wow-bright as Las Vegas strip!!! Ill take pictures this weekend and show you real basic took and hour and has been amazing

noooo you lost the other 4 OE's???? did you open them to check? ahhh that sucks-if you need a OE roo I have extras ( thats if you wind up with all pullets:-)

Sorry about your incubator troubles Kristen...that stinks!

I use a mini LED flashlight as a candler...after I put new batteries in...I can candle an Olive Egg!

The styrofoam bator I used before the homemade one is a Hovabator 2362N...it did pretty well IMO...may have to buy another turner and use that one as well

OH Nat...can you add these as well....

4/2 13 Blue Wheaten Ameraucaunas (Peachick..seller)
4/2 13 Golden Cuckoo Marans (Pasofinofarms...seller)
4/2 1 Blue copper Marans (pullet egg...mine)
4/2 3 Random bantam eggs (mine)

(another 30 eggs....makes 84 eggs in the bator)

Thanks Natalie!

So we are heading home and lockdown begins in a few hours!!!! (A little late, but better with me home than letting son do it.)

And I hope my eggs are there when I get home, too.

Hubby wants to know, after all 'I've spent on chickens in the last year, why do I have to BUY eggs to dye this weekend.

That's what I'm using to candle, too. Batteries do make the difference. But I still wasn't able to see through Natalies olives.
