hmm-is that thing hereditary? The one chick that has crooked beak of mine was from byc eggs:-( was she an EE or an OE or a mixed brown egg? Im going to have to look at all my chicks but I havent noticed anything like that on them:-( Oh I do have a split silkie that does get overgrowth on her top beak that I have to clip too...Id love to see a picture when you get time-is it bad?

a bit of gentle physical therapy on the beak, push it back into place several times/day as a young chick and you may totally correct it.

That is good to know, thanks for sharing that.

I have a twisted beak hen, my "crossed beak beauty" I call her, I trim it about once every 4 months. She has no issues, if the bird can eat and drink why stress it?

SO I may not get anymore to hatch my &%^$%$# bator is a (*^&$^%#@ and I WILL be getting one that is digital, these still airs are crap and I hate them. 98.6 one sec, 103 another... I think I have egg souffle instead of hatching eggs. I doubt the other 4, my mille fleur or the mix will hatch now because of that stupid bator.

So sorry, Lovin... how many did you end up with? (Sorry. Haven't stayed on top of everyone.) What kind of bator do you have?

I have 2 Hovabator 1602n still airs. and I have NOT been able to keep them remotely regulated this hatch. Unless you keep them in a dark steady 65 degree room they fluctuate like yoyos WITHOUT opening them, touching them, adding water to them... you go to bed and it's 100.5 you wake up and its 96.8 or 103.4 THIS is why I've been having multiple chicks with rough navel. Not impressed. Time to invest in a better bator.

Wow, I thought Hovabators were good bators.

I need to go look for a pic of rough navel. I don't think I've seen that. The chick I had that looked odd and had that "thing" stuck to her belly seemed to straighten out overnight and whatever it was went in without intervention from me. She was still in the bator when I left for the hospital ER last Sunday, but my son says she is fine now and has nothing wrong her except a bit of attitude.

Is it low or high temps that cause rough navel?
