So tonight technically begins day 18. I won't be home til tomorrow around 5 or 6, so almost day 19. But I don't trust my son to up the humidity and lock it down because though he's good, I just don't think he'll watch it carefully enough. And in January I got a spike right after lock down. So, my question is, should I take the chance and have him lock it down tonight and raise the humidity. Or would it be okay to wait for tomorrow when I get home. I can raise the humidity in 5 mins in that little bator. So it's not like it takes hours.

As I understand it it's the crazy high spikes that cause it... more than once I've found the bator well up over 103.

Hey Lovins, sorry to hear about the bator.

I can only say good things about r-coms.

I have 3 r-com 20s (long story - work related.. err... sort of ...mostly...)
They run about $400 but if you put $50 in eggs (very easy to do we all know) and they hatch you soon save the $$ that an unreliable bator would waste. Not to mention the heartache.

If eggs are fertile I get excellent hatch rates, and do not have to worry about them for 3 weeks apart from topping up the water.

Just my experience.

BTW I also have an old brinseas, and roll-x. They are good but not like the r-com.

Do you use a water wiggler to check temps? I go by that because if I look at air temps it drives me insane. That's how I messed everything up in Jan thinking that I was looking at water wiggler temp ranges instead of air vs. wiggler temps. (One of my more stupid moments for sure. Well, stupid month.) But the water wiggler seems to stay more constant. That's what I go by. Course, I'm not an experienced or even very successful hatcher yet, so I really can't say its the right thing to do.

Get a Genesis..I now have 2 and I LOVE them. I think they are about as "set it and forget it" as you can get in the bators. $160 shipped from Cutler's.

yes and no-The moms are so sweet and loving-he is vert protective of them-that is a good trait but I call him a jerk...LOL...he's doing his job which I appreciate for sure-but when he wacks the hand that feeds him when giving treats?? That I hate-but Deal with. They are getting put into a large outside coop this weekend-run and all and Im sure that will make a world of difference
