No really. You put the probe (if you have one) from your thermometer in the middle and it is supposed to give you a much more accurate temp to reflect what the internal egg temp. really is. You know as liquid (egg insides) cools and heat slower than the air.

You take the wired probe on a thermometer that measures indoor outdoor temps. Put the wire probe inside the waterwiggler. It will simulate an egg and you will find that air temp fluctuations really don't have as much effect on the egg as you think as long as they don't last for long periods. Mine still fluctuates a bit more than I'd like, but I hand turn. Even in my homemade bator, it's much easier to monitor and not drive yourself crazy, if you don't do like I did and think air temp equals water wiggler temp/egg temp. My bator is forced air though, because we put a computer fan in it, and I think that makes a water wiggler be more effective because the temps are even through out the bator. In still airs, I don't think that is the case so much. At least that's what I've read.

My two hatches have both started on day 19. Each time I have several pips and at least one out by the end of day 19. Goooo chicies!! Welcome home huh!!

LOL. The probe was attached to the $10 Accurite thermometer/hygrometer I bought at lowes. But walmart carries them too. And they also keep a history of the air temp/water wiggler temps if you use them this way.

Are any of those pipping eggs booteds? I lost the one I was hatching

I'd like to find a bator that self waters like a high end espresso maker, self turns, self regulates and fondles the chicks after they hatch... but something tells me they dont have those... I think I should go to bed.

No, no one's actually pipped yet. But just before I locked down, they both looked fine, but one was a little behind maybe. Didn't appear to have quit totally. The other one looked excellent and right on track. I still think both are probably good.

Formed, I think it's the hatch temps, I really do, it spiked way up. Like baked chick in a shell

I am not at all happy with this past hatch, but I still blame my mothers cat... I had to move the bator out of my kitchen because he thinks everything is his private flippin chew toy.

Yeah, first hatch my temps spiked just before the pipping started. Last time there were only two, but it didn't happen.

Maybe Mama's cat needs to go in the bedroom... just saying. (Sorry, not a cat lover...)
