Still haven't caught up on this thread! We had the make a wish party today. Went great and my daughter was really excited with her playhouse.

Both of my turkeys died. Neither pipped, but looked fully developed. Couldn't see anything wrong.

Sizzles aren't due til tomorrow but started pipping last night. So far, 4 are out. 3 are yellow, one has 4 toes but the other two have 5. And one is "silver", the shiniest silver you've ever seen. Gorgeous. But not healthy. It was the first to hatch, there was lots of blood, as if a blood vessel burst. It has not opened it's eyes, and is laying and occasionally moving around. I have pips galore, but it seems like quite a few are pipping on the bottom. Ugh. I don't know why. This is the first time I've hatched without an egg carton, and I did it because I overloaded the bator. Not again. The eggs rolling around makes me crazy. I can't take it. I have had to walk away and I'm just not looking any more for a while. Those that pipped on the wrong end... do they stand a chance? Did they pip on the wrong end because I didn't use a carton? I think I have 3 at least like that. Maybe more, can't tell with the football game in there.

I don't mean to be ignorant, but I don't know what a coronation is and don't understand the word. I tried to figure it out when you were paying all that money for it, and got sidetracked and never did figure it out. What makes them so unique?

I will post pics tomorrow of the new babies.

These are actually coronation/ light splits. The eggs came from Keesmom on here, her flock consists of 2 pens each with a coronation roo and 3 hens (2 pure coronation and 1 light sussex for diversity). This increases the odds of getting a coronation quite a bit. I lucked out, as her girls went broody right after i got these eggs. (She is excellent to deal with).

To be honest, I believe they are so expensive due to their rarity in the US. I lucked out and found keesmom as there is no way I could afford the prices of started birds.

I wanted them as they have the lavender neck rather then the black of the light sussex. I now have BBS Orps, soon lav orps, blue andalusians, blue easter eggers, blrw, bbs silkies (they really were an oops), do you see the trend here? I love the blue gene and the fancy birds. I also have bcms and barnes.

Too be honest, my hubby kind of took over the pullets and layer end of things and I found I love hatching and nothing gives me pleasure like new babies. So I have decided to focus on the fancier breeds and putting together high quality flocks, hopefully I will be able to sale chicks and hatching eggs in the future. We have been married 19 years on Tuesday and we have bonded over our love of raising chickens as our kids are getting older. Kind of funny, actually.

So, I think we have decided on the name Misty Blue Farm...any opinions?

Here is a link to a few pics of the Coronation Sussex. Big Beautiful birds.

Oops, forgot to add that they were imported from Greenfire Farms but there pics just due not do them justice. As day olders they are white/yellow chicks- I was kind of surprised, lol. I am not sure if I expected them to come out with a gold crown or something.

That's one of the prettiest birds I've ever seen. I love the blue and lavender birds, too. I have never seen one of these before though. I can't wait to see them as they grow!

Well I guess it's time for an update from me

I still have 10 BLRW's in the bator, I just candled and saw definite movement in about half, but a few were pretty dark/full and I couldn't see much, so I hope that means they will just be early hatchers, and not quiters. Gosh, I feel like this is my first time hatching! Anyway, they go on lock down on Monday.

For the geese eggs I have 2 left that still have good movement, I was worried because I was cooling them last night and forgot to put them back in, in 15 minutes, so they were out for 45 minutes, but they are wiggling all over the place tonight.

Next week I am expecting 6+ Giant Cochins and 6+ Seramas from JJMR794, so I'm pretty excited about those too!

I also have finally started my coop, I finished the run today and will start on the actual coop tomorrow.

Here is the Run, its 8ft long, 4 ft deep and 3 ft tall. We haven't put the run door in yet, we will do that tomorrow

The coop will be the same size but have added height from the "A" frame roof, and be right on top of the run. It will look like a red barn with white trim, and have the entire front wall split into 2 doors that open to make for easy cleaning, egg collecting and feeding, and will have a ramp that leads to the run.

So how is everybody else doing, I'm sorry I haven't been around much, I went through a "I'm a bad chicken mommy" stage, but I am doing better now. Plus I am helping plan the Northern California ChickenStock, as I volunteered our property.
