Peachicks are a bit tricky to hatch (I like a challenge!!), but as long as they get enough heat and are well fed they are easy to keep alive.

They are especially cute as the imprint very strongly and want lots of attention. Too much sometimes. I am hoping to hatch a Java and an opal hen for potentially keeping. Java because they are so beautiful, and opal because they become super super tame. Males are more difficult to keep as they need more room, and are noisy. I may not be able to keep any in the long run if they are not happy in a pen, as I can't free range them. We will see, and will enjoy them while we have them.

And DAK, I always wanted to be a vet. This is now as close as I will ever get.

If you knew how heatbreaking it is on a regular basis, you would be thankful you're not. I am thankful I can take care of my own animals on a moments notice though.

What's the tricky part to hatching peachicks? I find chicken hatching difficult enough. ( as I type instead of interferring with the hatch)

I have used sharpie and the crayola washable kind. Both work but sharpie does not smudge.

Dak...go to bed already! What will be will be, making yourself sick will not change that!

Yea my hubby gets annoyed as well but is trying to tolerate it. I am almost done with hatching mostly peachicks now- it is just for fun really as I live in Del Mar and can't keep a ton of birds. When they get too big I rehome most of the chicks.

Phage is the name my brothers gave me as a kid, I am actually an ex radiologist, ex because I just do high field MRI research at the local University. Also do imaging for the marine rescue at Seaworld which is a lot of fun. My pet project is developing imaging methods that reduce the numbers of animals used in research.

Awww, what a job!

Dak, if I post a pic of my roo's disfigured side of the face, can you tell me if anything can be done? It's all lumpy and the eyeball seems to have gotten bigger. He was born that way. But right now it's all swollen because another roo attacked him. That roo is finding a new home and is separated.

Good morning, Ladies!

I can't tell you how nice it is to get up and take care of the critters and then sit down to read a nice conversation!

Wow dak, I missed that you are a DVM

- AND I'm impressed Phage told you what she does specifically. That is a first!

I was in pre-vet for a year at A&M and realized I didn't fit in at A&M. Sadly, I baled to UT and went into geology, like the rest of my family. Bad career move.
