I just stopped a couple of weeks ago because I couldn't STAND the dust in the house any more. I have a batch of super cute frizzles going outside right before we leave for the chickenstock. I need all the chicks out of the house for the holiday season! Dust on my inlaw's turkey wouldn't cut it.

Also I think my DH was coming to the end of his rope about chicks.

Hey Dak, Any pips?

As for the one blue egg.....

The seller sent 14, 8 smashed 5 detached air sacs /leaking, one partially attached airsac. I set all with intact shells but only the one with the partially attached airsac did anything. NOT cheap eggs either. I am sure they were fertile, just PO trashed them... AGAIN.
The 6 others are lav orps from Bargain. Sent 8, 1 leaking and 1 did nothing. 6 have embryos

.

No new carnage this morning. Racoons got the vulnerable chooks yesterday. If they dig or tear wire they could get to the peacocks but maybe they are put off by their size. DH is talking hot wire, but I know that won't happen soon as he is crazy busy right now.

Hot wire is a good second line of defense after proofing the coops.

Wow, your PO sounds like the Houston PO. I think they drop kick the boxes for fun!

Oh, and congrats on the orps! So pretty!

I'm really proud of my DH for building a hen house a mouse couldn't get into. Our problem is we don't have a covered pen and the pen is actually too big to cover, and we have hawks.

As for eggs - I also got 24 golden penciled hamburg eggs - (They are SWEET birds - look great, smart, small and lay great sized eggs). Every single airsac was detached, and in some of the eggs the yolk had broken and was mixed in with the white. Needless to say none of them did anything.

I think my DH was coming to the end of his rope about chicks too, so I have slowed WAY down. Besides I have 'enough' and selling them is just too much of a pain.

Do you think you could send your DH over here on loan for a bit!!! We need some decent coops.

Lav orps sound like they're doing great!

Nice to hear I'm not the one with a fed up hubby.

Nice to hear I'm not the only one with a fed up hubby.

One very loud chick hatched, no further pips. Maybe it will stimulate its siblings.

Great!
I lost patience and candled the remainder. 4 deceased and one internally pipped. I cracked the lid and found it to be somewhat shrink wrapped so I helped. It seems ok for now. Of the four deceased chicks, 2 were the proper yellow, 1 was dark with a cream belly, and one was yellow with a black head.

wow what day were you on again??? At least you got one more huh??? Im sorry about the others been there sooo many times. Maybe not with such "golden" eggs but nevertheless had lots shrink warppped and dead:-( COngrats on the babies though cant wait to see pictures!!

Day 21. The only consistent thing about my incubator is timing of the hatch. They either hatch on time, are shrink wrapped, or are dead. Glad I didn't wait on that last one. It is still tentative if the second will be ok. I should know by tomorrow. The first is perky. At least the two that made it are the right color. You should have your own special eggs soon, and you better post your own pics!

Hoppy, glad you are getting pushier about your illness. Everyone should be a squeaky wheel when it comes to their own health.

Lovin, sorry about the darn notice. When are you moving?

Phage, sorry about the coons. Shock fencing is the way to go-in NY, it was the only thing that kept the deer out of my garden. You have Crele Polish??? I have 3 BLP, and 2 purebred mutt Polish-one in my avatar. The poor girls are hiding from Mr. roo all day, I guess they don't like the romance. I don't think they ever liked it, LOL. I think I need to build that roo pen. I have 4 that crow, a silkie, a JG, a BO, and a bantam. I also have 4 Blue/splash JG's that are starting practice.

I'm just happy to be back with my chooks after being in Texas for a week. Today is weird weather. During the day it was 91 and 45% humidity. Tonight it's 80 and 70% humidity. My gf years ago told me she thinks anything under 150 is tolerable- you add the temp and humidity together. So today was a total of 136, and tonight is 150. Anyone else think about this?

Brindle, Petey is a cute dog (named after "Our Gang's" Petey). He seems easily trainable with some patience. I told my daughter that first and foremost she needs to teach him "NO" means "NO". "No" can fix almost any problem. If a dog of mine learns one thing it's - no. He's also a pushy male. You can push him to move off the couch 50 times, LOL. and he's still back.

Oh well, off to bed!
