that really is aweful!

You could try trapping them in a have a heart trap. Here if I can get them trapped...animal control will take them away.

Do you know any hunters? Most perminant way is to shoot the suckers! Sorry but I too no longer have any warm fuzzy left for them.

someone at the dr office has picked up my case and she is recommending a 2nd opinion on the GI. I totally agree just not sure where to go. there are 2 hospitals in town and the one I'm seeing is at the main hospital where the care seems better (never had a good experience at the other hospital). we went over all my bloodwork, seeing if anything has or has not been missed, liver was normal sized but painful and still the nausea when not on meds. now I find I shouldn't take anything over the counter for pain because of my liver, so new script for that. on a better note, I'm getting a flock of marans - an aquantince needed to get rid of them, I bought 2 this summer from him (both turned out to be boys) so he said the flock is mine. I get them in the next few days but will have to get rid of a few extra boys. he also has 1 cornation sussex roo from greenfire farm and 3 split pullets for $50 for the lot. I don't have room for those and what I already have. I know he ships if interested.
he used to be a big time cochin breeder.

Was it Karl Rau?
You may need to travel to get proper care. It would be worth it if you can get the care you need.

Phage, I think live trap or shooting. Problem is, would animal control just move them somewhere where they'd be someone elses problem. My hay guy told me he has lost over 30 birds to a gang of 6 coons. I'm sorry about your birds.

Oh, Geez. What a way to go. I'm so sorry you lost some of your lovely birds.

The only permanent solution may be to make your coops coon proof and secure with heavy gage hardware cloth, so they can't reach
through.

If you do manage to get rid of one gang of coons, they will just be replaced by another and sooner or later you will have this problem again.

You would have a major deterrent if there was a large, predacious dog in your backyard at night. But then the coops would need to be secure from the dog, also. BUT, it would keep the coons away.

The only permanent, reasonable solution is to make your cages and coops coon proof.

Phage I am so sorry

that's aweful and what a traumatizing thing to wake up to. Its never easy losing birds, but that must de devastating. I wish I was closer to give you a hand proofing the coop. Dont worry about me, I have a plan worked out to buy time and buy an agreement. I may need to take up Nats offer, but it will only be for 3 birds (roos) if I can play my cards right. That way i wont lose my breeding males, I seriously think I can talk them into allowing my hens.

Hoppy. I know this will work out for you. Travel and get answers, if you dont like the answers ask someone else. You need solid medical care.

Everyone else, thanks for being so supportive. You guys are like family!

Thanks for your support guys. Proofing the coops is the only way.

I could not kill one I don't think, but it is interesting how people (on other threads) seem to think that raccoons should be trapped and released, but that pet dogs who get out, and bobcats who attack flocks should be shot.

And dak I have one blue egg (out of 14), and half a dozen lav ops on the go.

Step back from the bator and the babies will come....

I would have given my eye teeth for a broody for this batch of eggs. I had a dream last night that they all hatched the wrong color. Weird thing is, I opened up a late quitter a couple days ago and it was. Dark feathering not yellow. I was warned there are still a few recessives floating around this pen.

Hey Dak, Any pips?

As for the one blue egg.....

The seller sent 14, 8 smashed 5 detached air sacs /leaking, one partially attached airsac. I set all with intact shells but only the one with the partially attached airsac did anything. NOT cheap eggs either. I am sure they were fertile, just PO trashed them... AGAIN.
The 6 others are lav orps from Bargain. Sent 8, 1 leaking and 1 did nothing. 6 have embryos

.

No new carnage this morning. Racoons got the vulnerable chooks yesterday. If they dig or tear wire they could get to the peacocks but maybe they are put off by their size. DH is talking hot wire, but I know that won't happen soon as he is crazy busy right now.
