My god Gary, do you handle ALL of your birds daily? They have got to be the friendliest most calm chickens I've ever met!
No, especially not this year, these guys pretty much raised themselves, (my wife and daughter would dispute that). I spent way less time, because of my knee, than ussual with these guys. Like I've said before on these boards, life is too short to put up with crazy, flighty, or mean birds. Having breed them for so long I may have been biased toward preferring the calmer birds for my breeders, but Brahmas in general are such sweethearts. All you wyandotte breeders look away from the screen now, but I could not get rid of the BLRW male fast enough that I used to start my blue laced red Brahma project. It probably was just a individual personality thing as I doubt so many people would be raising dottes if they all acted like him,(unless of course they had not experienced Brahmas), and I still think I can see some of his personality traits carrying over into some of his decendants what 4 generations later. I look at type, color, and personality when choosing my breeders.
Yes, the brahmas are love bugs! Ive had mine 2 days and they purr...They really purr-I like to think its because they are happy-but I know its some sort of thing they do...LOL
