Im alive a wee bit tired but oh well I have the next week off of work and girls have school/Mon/Tues so I will have alone time to do whatever them:) IM so glad you got all girls what colors are they now?? I would LOVE to get a batch like that but you know my luck I d get 2 girls and 8 roos thats my luck lately...I have 7 millies that hatch out this past week and from the attitudes I bet I have 4 roos! haha so tiny and cute-bused DH holdingthem saying" aren't you the cutest little thing-oooh and your so so tiny-aw look at the widdle peanut one!" He loves tiny chicks thank goodness as they will be house chickens for quit a while now! I waiting for the 5 fluff bal silkies to fully feather out and in about 3 more weeks they will go into garage with a heating light with the others....still debating on putting eggs under broody if I have the energy to set up another brooder box in garage. We were SUPPOSED to move my FIl's little sportscar back in garage before winter realy sets in but if I did that -that leaves NO room for anything-so I asked DH...Can't we sneak the car in there in Spring before he gets back here? ( his dad is leaving first week of Dec to his FL house) I hope he'll agree as he likes all the room that is down there to tend to the pens as much as I do:)

if you put the car in there, it just going to smell like chickens, reason enough not to put it in there.

....or worse it could get covered with chicken poop or if rodents come in the garage after the shelter/chicken food they could eat the electrics

I am recent into the silkies but I was told, solid colors. we started with white. I saw a bunch of people have problems showing their blues that turned out to be splashes and buffs with black feathers. so I'd say stick with black or white to show until she gets more experience.
one question for those that show, can you really put up your silkies crest in elastic so you don't have to cut it off when not showing?

poodle tape is best to use to hold the crest out of their eyes

Thanks Hoppy,
I don't have any eggs (no roosters) but needed a ball park figure for a friend.
I think there are going to be a lot of really nice BLRW eggs available next year, as a lot of the sharks have got quality birds, and many from you. Also other people have them as well. Seems so unfair that you have lost your best rooster.

Im soooo tired! OK all kids were gone by 1pm:) full bellies and tired eyes! I left my girls home to clean up from al the fun! I left to go help a friend butcher 4 turkeys--WRONG...She had asked me if I knew anyone who would want to buy a turkey as she had 4 shes hadn't sold yet out of 40? SO I sold all of them for her-she offered me one if I would come and help butcher up the last of those turkeys. I figured meh..4 turkeys sure Ill help. I get there and I see a field of turkeys..A flipping field 24 of them. I said umm wow ummm wheres the 4 we are doing?? She says what are you talking about Nat I said I didnt sell 4 we have 24 to do!

I put my big girl panties on and grabbed a knife. The 3 guys manned the ax's and feather plucker-I did all the cavity cleaning -neck chopping off ( after the birds were dead) pulling crops out and legs of-puling remaining feather out-the other two women took birds into house and thouroughly washed dried and vacuumed packed them...I stood there for 4 hours doing the same routine PPPPEEEEEUUUUUUUUUU

Overall good experience-great people-never again too much work on my back picking those birds up a bizzilion times. But I did get a gorgeous 24 lb turkey for my freezer and she is picking up and OE roo from me:) Got home and MIL had cooked dinner next door for all of us thank goodness...

Due to the beautiful blrw I know the sharkies are raising, and the fact I only have 2 pullets at this time (both splash), I do not plan on selling blrw eggs next year. I plan on hatching eggs and selling chicks local. My customers that were buying my hatchery stock kept trying to by my blrw babies as they were raised together. I know they will sell easily in this marketplace.

On another note- where would I get nice white silkies? Any suggestions? How many black chicks would come out of b/b/s? I know, so many questions.

Bob has gorgeous whites:) NO blrw eggs?? just because we have them doesnt mean you can't sell eggies. Some of the sharkies cant have the roos:-( I think there's only a few of us that have them??
