Thanks guys. I love my job and wouldn't trade it. It's not the people wrecking or getting hurt that got to me, it was all of the phones ringing at once and being completely out of everything I needed to send people. It is my job to help them, and I just felt like I couldn't do that today. My supervisor that I was working with today (just the 2 of us keep in mind) said that I did a great job and he was really proud of me, which makes me feel even better.

I have never had a day at work where I just wanted to cry, today was a first for that. It was horrible.

That's why they pay you the big bucks!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Mary, you are sooooooo funny!

My job isn't anywhere near as important as yours but I know the feeling. I sit on the phone all day triaging calls and making appointments and I get 100 calls for 'my mom says I have strep, I need an appointment' and 1 or 2 calls "I can't breathe, I have a head injury, etc' - so I have to leave room for those 1 or 2 people somehow. Yesterday I was talking to one kid and there were eight messages waiting for me when I got off the phone..

I've only got 12-15 appointments most days, so when all the cold/flu people can't get in, I get irate moms and dads calling me shortly wanting to know why their kid was told to take motrin. They really start yelling at me and tell me 'don't make me drive down there'. Yikes. I love my job too.

I was shocked! I have a hatchery Orloff named Ana- sweetest funniest thing! Love her!

I got some Orloffs from another source, and the roos started attacking other chicks before they were fully feathered. They started attacking my hand when they were bigger and changing their cage or bringing them food or water. When they did that I grabbed by the base of a wing and flipped them over on their backs. I had to do this for several days before they learned to leave my hands alone. Flip 'em and they would get up and come right back! Unpleasant birds. I got rid of all of them and was so disappointed they weren't more like Ana. I read later that some of the Orloffs had game birds bred into them for type or something or other.

We have a college in our county and I deal with irate parents all the time. They don't scare me. The policy I love the most when it comes to our college students is the one our city police have. If the student is over 18, which 99% are, the cops don't talk to the parents. The kid is 18 and an adult, if they choose not to tell their parents the truth, that isn't the officers fault. They can find out in court what really happened. The best is when a student has a family member that is a cop somewhere else. They think getting that officer to call the officer that arrested them, is going to get them off. With my officers, that just pizzes them off even more! LOVE it!!!

Yah, I can't talk to parents regarding anything about their kids unless said kid is under 18 or if s/he signs a release. However, I can speak in generalities. 'if your son/daughter called us with xyz problem, they would be triaged by an RN (me), etc etc etc..'. They looooove that. I tell them if their kid would like to come by and sign a release I'd be happy to discuss it with them. /shrug.

If *I* called someone to complain about something I'd try to be sweet as pie about it if I can - seems to work better..

It has been snowing all day today...turned to rain a little while ago. While the kids and I were in the kitchen snackin' on fudge there was a HUGE flash of light outside. Out of habit, I started counting...got to #8 and SURE ENOUGH IT THUNDERED!!! It's February for Pete's sake!
