Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Waiting till next weekend to set any eggs so that they will hatch after school is out and I will be off work.
In the mean time this broody should be due around the 25th of this month. View attachment 1339421 still sitting tight even after changing nests. Hoping she will stick it out. At least until the Cayuga s are hatched out, that way I can stick them in that bator if she gives up.
What’s this ones name? I can’t remember.

I must interject. If you vaseline a rubber gasket you wreck it. You need silicone gasket lube. Pool store, no idea where else. And no that's not what my mom said last night.
:lau:lau
There was a sticker under the lid that I think said to use vegetable oil. I just set it out after a trial run in the bath tub. . works so far so good. But I could see where if the seal gets old or dirty that it would fail. I also poured water in the tray before removing the little cap so it couldn't pull any air inside.. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I've had one for over 3 years. It's been frozen solid, and when thawed, it still worked. I have replaced the gasket once. I've lubed the gaskets too, with Vaseline, I think.
I'm sure I read somewhere to NOT screw it down too tight. Just enough to create the vacuum and release the water.

Ravyns book of choice words helps too.

This one is my new favorite though. I have 2 of these. One we drilled a hole in the top, and put a hose in thru the hole, and can turn the water on to refill without going inside the pen. The inside stays very clean, although the trough gets yucky.
