Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

It's hard to tell if I'm hearing peeping from the bator or not I have so many birds singing outside my Windows lol.

Same here too! I thought a chick was loose outside my bedroom window this morning :D

How much membrane can you see? Just watch for it to turn brown. Otherwise, we'll be waiting with you.

I hate it at the end when you can't see anything! If they are really close to hatching sometimes I've noticed you can't really even see veins maybe just a hint of red around the air cell. Don't throw in the towel until your absolutely sure.
Cayuga egg update. . . .
I have one external pip and one internal and the last one is shadowing now! :celebrate

I mostly can see a vein or two so hopefully they are ok. Thanks for the reassurance! Nervewracking time in the process!

How adorable!:love

That's fantastic Shaw! :celebrate
I finally got my new phone set up and started getting alerts for here again!
Maybe I can keep up now:fl

Ya a a a . . so glad you got a new phone finally!

Still nothing more than a pip. I don't know when to start to worry about it cause I don't know for sure what time it pipped. :hmm
I hope it's ok in there! :fl

:love:love:love:love:love:love
How are your other ducks acting around them? Any problems?

Fluffy webs yet?

Nope. Still keeping me waiting. First egg has made a second pip hole next to the first one. .so it may finish unzipping soon. . second egg has made its first pip! I'm off to work I'll have to come check them on my break :)

Sounds real promising for today then!

Mine took every bit of 48 hours. Which meant I got little sleep for 3 days.:th

I'm keeping my :fl
:pop:pop:pop
I have one goose egg that internally pipped last night...:fl

It is a race! Piggy duck against goose! :lau

:lau :pop
I bet Piggy hatches first... Vixyn took forever!:th

I shamefully did not get up last night to check on them. I figure I may as well sleep so I won't be tempted to do something I shouldn't! I didn't go to bed till 12 tho and was back up at 6 :th
Going in now to look!

I'm horrible about keeping my hands out of the bator...
You're doing great! :hugs

Looks like the pips are cracked out a tiny bit more than they were but that's all for now. But I think I heard peeping :p

Woohoo!:celebrate
The one goose is peeping..:D

It's hard to tell if I'm hearing peeping from the bator or not I have so many birds singing outside my Windows lol.

Oh I know how that is..:lau

Because these all have the same theme, I have decided to save time and respond to them all at once:

Yea!!!! Post pictures when it’s out please!
Absolutely!:love
I stayed up a lot because it was my first time and I was always afraid something bad was going to happen. Kinda like your first kid you think is going to stop breathing in the middle of the night for no reason so you keep getting up.:gig
I'm sure I'll be up and down all night checking these goose eggs..:th

@WVduckchick all of my egg membranes were completely white. But pictures I’ve seen on here show completely translucent membranes. I’m thinking of Pyxis’s how to hatching thread. Is there a reason for the difference?

They would only be translucent if they have been moistened with oil, etc. Or when you first crack into an air cell for an assist, the membrane could be clear until the air dries it out. But what we see in normal, unassisted hatching is usually the outer membrane. Its thicker and will stay white much longer.

Clarify - white is good if the chick/duckling is progressing normally on its own. If assisting and much membrane is exposed, then it should be oiled and translucent.
