The vessels will almost disappear. Most of them. But there will still be some residual ones.
If you gradually chip more shell off the bottom side of the air cell end, you can sometimes see how bold the blood still is. I can usually find a clear area of membrane to split and fold back around the shell, kinda like a bag in your trash can type thing.
I had some sort of crack free in bits while oiling it this time.

Looking good! Each time you mess with them, peel a little more shell back, opening the hole a little wider each time. Eventually they will be able to kick right out when they want to.

The top pic looks a little crispy on the membrane. You might even have to get past the hard part by exposing more membrane to give you a spot to peel it loose. Watch the direction of the feathers and peel with them, not against them.
