Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Oh, and I went ghetto today and cobbled some chicken wire temporary barriers to give Bianca and Squirt (the older juvie pair) a little outside area where Jax can't get to them, but they have a pan of water to bathe in now. I rigged it next to my 9-week BCMs temporary run, and opened between them, since they all get along. At dark, half of the BCMs were roosted in the duck house, the other half in their own house. :gig

Herding poultry is worse than herding cats. Why is the coop always nicer on the other side of the yard??
My duck coop has a little sign on it that I painted that clearly states DUCKS ONLY, but the hens completely ignore it. They apparently can't read worth chicken scratch. And the ducks would rather sleep on the hard ground in the chicken run than their own cosy straw bed.

They are silly birds arent they....:lau
My ducks sleep between our house and the barn on the hard ground too. They can go in the barn wherever they want but.....:lau

Yep Yep!
It rained all weekend, and the BCM temp run only has a little cover and that got all soaked too. It was nice and dry in the duck house (amazing I know!)

Oh, and I finally have some draw down on the call eggs, so maybe some might hatch this week. :fl
(I hope they aren't deformed dux from being left outside uncovered for 2 days, mid-incubation!)

4 growing embryos so far, I think!! Daphne is doing great! The broody bug caught and now my Sussex went all broody cuckoo, and it was all drama today as Napoleon the banty rooster decided to pick a fight with the angry hen and stepped into the nesting box, where Matilda lunged at him and they played a vicious game of leapfrog and who can peck your eye out first game. He just wouldn't quit!
He thinks he's so cool, defending his territory under the tree swing, and attacking any innocent bystander. He made one wrong move by trying to bully the Call drakes away from their food pan, and they got ticked and chased him away. Jasper and Gilbert ain't taking that!

Always!! I never get a moments break. Like 2 weeks ago I found Gladys the hen dangling off the ramp flapping her wings hysterically, her feet entangled in string that was wrapped around a stick stuck in the hinge of the ramp. No clue how that happened at all!
