Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hitI'm so upset! I just candled all 8 eggs, and saw life in only 2, maybe 3. The rest are floaty dark blobs without movement or real veining. All my ducklings are dead! Stupid duck! So disappointed! My ducklings :( Completely heartbroken, they had only a week or so to go!
I think I should just give the live ones to my broody hen, because I'm afraid this might happen again and kill the survivor(s). Daphne has never done this before, she has been doing a good job but.........what should I do?
There's little chance those eggs are alive. I wish I hadn't gone to work today so I could have monitored the situation.
Should I give the eggs to my broody hen? She has one chicken egg under her,, somehow she lost the other one, totally ticks me off. It must have been kicked out, and I dug around in the nesting box and the shavings and couldn't find nothin'. All my babies are dying!
So sorry :hugs:hugs:hugs
I don't know what to say about giving it to your hen.. I don't have chickens so I have no idea. . have you placed eggs under that hen before? Did she accept them?
I don't think Jane is doing much better with her eggs. she for some reason has moved her eggs all over the house during this round. . every day I see eggs not covered. they should be due any day now. We will see.

The hen, Matilda, is extremely broody, she hardly gets off the nest, and makes sure the eggs are constantly warm. She's only a year old, but has been wonderful. I would prefer Daphne to hatch and raise her own babies, but I'm scared she's going to let the remainders die! Should I take the goners out tomorrow and let Daphne try to hatch the rest? If 1-2 can be called ' the rest'

Sorry I bailed on ya there. .
You can remove the bad ones if you don't think it will make her stop sitting all together. I suppose if she does give up then you always have your hen.

Y'all inspired me to candle eggs tonight. :wee
Good results! 10 out of 11 eggs under Jane are still good. Getting very full. . no drawdown yet but they are at least alive! Only 1 didn't look too good but I left it just in case.
Howard/Cayuga eggs are developing too! All 11 of those :lau

If they all hatch I will seriously be overrun with ducklings. :gig
I was so happy to see the Howard eggs are developing. I have candled from the outside of the bator a few times and it didn't look like anything was happening.
So I am pleasantly surprised to see all 11 of them have pretty little spider veins :)

So many babies possible! Congrats on Howard's doing so well, that must be a great feeling.
