I do the same. I used to use starter until lay, but I was having a problem keeping broody chicks out of the layer's food. I switched them all to flock raiser and gave free choice oyster shells in the pens

I do the same here. Layer feed with free choice since I have so many different ages of chickens and roosters mixed in. Too much calcium for a cock can hurt it's kidneys I guess.
