She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Sebastian dances after crowing because he has a noise reduction collar on and is trying to get it off. He's over twice the volume without it.
Thanks for explaining that. I was sitting here thinking that he has some neurologic malady, and wondering if I should mention it, then thinking... perhaps not, b/c I don't want to cause offense. The sock explains a lot of things!

Anyone use "blue seal" feed? It's the closest I can buy without traveling 45 mins.
Oh no!!!! Too funny!! My auto correct turns every word that starts with SH into a 4 letter word. I didn't think I used it that much!

It also turns SC into AC and I have to go back and delete. And I totally agree about not cleaning the brooder too efficiently. I also place chunks of sod into the brooder after the first week to expose them to the germs in my yard.
How do you make it bold on a mobile?
I buy Blue Seal b/c the only other affordable option is Dumour. I use unmedicated starter, of if they don't have it w/o med, I use multi-flock starter (22%). The only reason I ever buy layer is b/c it's cheaper. And I don't worry too much about pullets or roos eating layer. My chicks get a clump of sod in the first week, and I agree that it's good to expose them to coop litter. All of my feed is fermented. When I was away, and hubby was feeding them dry, my egg count went down.

Really? That is interesting. I feed dry and then a big bowl of fermented. They always finish the bowl by dark. I wonder if I should just switch to all fermented?

I'm starting to think that a change of any kind of feed makes them stop or slows laying. I have heard folks say the opposite too. I'm getting 13 to 15 eggs a day from 16 layers so a buddy of mine switched to what I use and his birds just stopped laying completely until he went back to what he was. Strange.I think he needed to add oyster shell, but its still crazy that they just stopped when it's working great for me.

95+ degrees for 40 days is wreaking havoc on my egg supply...

Same here. Out of 8 laying hens, and 5 laying silkies, we were getting 2-3 eggs a day. It went up to 5-6 for a week, then back down. :he

I think, It's important with animals to change their diet slowly. I always try to wean them into new things and take my time doing it. Stress & change are 2 things animals don't handle well. And it's harder for them to communicate, so you have to be keen on behavior changes.

Well that brings up my other question of the day... I found this partial egg this morning, shell was semi-firm, but only half complete. It wasn't from my usual layers, because the first 2 laid before I left home, and those were fine. So is this probably another hen just starting? It looks like the egg factory just ran out of calcium

And I hope to return the favor if I can ever get my special eggs shipped.

Looks like you found a name.Little nervous to bring this up on a full moon friday but, I was going to suggest the guys name from 50 shades of grey. I don't know what it is, but it would be funny.

I do the same here. Layer feed with free choice since I have so many different ages of chickens and roosters mixed in. Too much calcium for a cock can hurt it's kidneys I guess.

I think Amy already has "Christian Grey"

LOL. I was going to name my eye pecking rooster that because he's different shades of gray.....I settled for Gibbs....lol So much easier to say...lol

I bet she likes ice cream, too. And seals...

Well I was not going to say your name....because I know how you feel....but she knows your name.

I am reading the new book from his perspective...its great so far. Far more vulgar in my opinion because your reading what he is thinking!!!!

They have it out from his perspective??? I've been saying I wish they would. The originals, I thought were very tame. Her innocence was just too innocent...lol I've love to read it from his point of view. I haven't seen the movie yet.
