She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Will comment on the BCM and Marans eggs in general. In the past eight year I have hatched several thousand Marans eggs. The first five years I hatched a very large amount each, past three years around 100 each year. I have never found the Marans eggs to hatch any different than any other Large fowl breed. If the egg is fertile I can hatch. Don
What humidity do you use?

you got on right before I posted that post. Did you see the 'jk jk' at the end?
Yes I did lol

So, then you don't do anything differently. Do you think it's possible it makes a difference with the small tale top incubators versus the larger cabinet/ mass production systems?

This summer has been rough for me. My incubators are settling down right at 50%~ totally dry.
I love them!! That's what I want to do with mine. Get them to imprint on me and follow me around!
I read somewhere that left handed people, on an average, die 3 years earlier then right handed people, due to accidents with right handed equipment.
Get out from under that chair :smack

Has anyone hear made a coolerbator to hatch from and can tell me how to do it
I made one out of a styro cooler for shipping meat. Check my sig.

Well that makes it simpler. Thanks Don.

Calls are super easy to imprint... she's my most cuddly though, being only child her age, lol...
You'll love them... :D

I'm very excited! I get the winter blues (s.a.d) and hatching late winter/early spring and having babies in the house will snap me out of it! I already bought the duck houses. And they are heated, so I can put them out earlier. I still have a ton of research to do on waterfowl. I'm going to read "Storey's guide" this winter. I'm putting your name in my notes, so I can contact you around hatch time, just incase we don't run into each other on BYC. I was thinking of keeping 5-6 ducks. Not sure on the suggested ratio for male/female? 2 males-4 females, sound good? If I buy local, how many should I set to get about 6? A dozen?

I'm probably going to do it. It's all trial and error for me. I'm setting again tomorrow or Thursday. Right now, dry, my Octagon runs around 28%. You think that's worth a shot?

What have you got to loose? So, you eat oatmeal for a few days instead of those fried eggs!

I made mine out of a styrofoam box that tropical fish were shipped in. Your best bet is to do a google search for Rush Lane Poultry, and follow one of his many tutorial videos.

I think 3-4 hens to each male is best, they're rather active/aggressive during breeding season... unless you can separate a boy out and trade off... no prob, contact me anytime... I'm still learning too, but also have friends who're encyclopedias too, lol... :D

If I had to pick one number for Humidity it would be 30, must be under 45. Last the days in Hatcher 60-65.I never hatch in the incubation unit as you have to raise the Number and it will kill the eggs that will hatch at a later date. I have one GQF hatcher for hatching only.
Thanks, Don. My best results of my hybrid eggs have been at 40-42%. You are about the 5th person today to suggest 30 for the BCM, so that's what I will go with on the next set
