She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

It's been almost 24 hours since @WVduckchick saw that one of my eggs was pipping, I read about how sometimes call duck need assistance to hatch. Today is day 24 and I have 6 pipping. How long before any of you would assist a duckling to hatch?

Wait a good 40 hours before you worry about needing to assist, unless it starts to zip part way and then stops. Ducks take longer and rest more than chickens do.

Awesome hatch! I hope that mine go well IF I get them. Still waiting.

I'm starting to wonder if there is not a solid rule about BCM chick color. It seems to me that the LP line has darker chicks, good copper, some unfortunate white later, and dark dark eggs. But there are other lines with light chicks and many of them have fading copper hackles or light feathers on the breasts or some other issue. My point is that I wonder if it's not necessarily a bad thing, but just the set of issues a breeder decides to deal with. But I'm a noob so maybe it is an indicator of something. I'm excited to see them grow out SC. I could be totally wrong, but it's a thought.

Good thought. All lines have some issues- it's such a difficult color pattern to work with (or so I've read).

I feel the same way. Get feet on the ground and go from there. That's why I'm hatching late in the season. These will be laying before I sell them. Egg color will be a big cull point for me
That, and type.

Hopefully I can get a few more someday.

ok thanks. This is such an amazing experience, my daughters 4 and 7 aren't as interested as I thought they would be but they get a kick out of hearing me cheer our ducklings on. My oldest makes fun saying mom is trying to make the baby ducks bilingual. Well maybe a little

They will get more excited when one pops out! Its impossible not to! If you teach one to be bilingual, get it on video!! Lol

Aw so cute! Are a couple of them older?

Meant to say this earlier. The pigeon and her chick are doing well. I named the chick Pigeon, it just seemed so appropriate  Eleanor has already laid another egg. I need to get her a mate. Maybe I'll stick a duck egg under her this time! :lau no, jk the ducks aren't laying anyway.
