I'm a bullet to the head kind of gal....

LOL - TSC has a bunch of cheap incubators here, too! The bullet to the head sounds good, but I don't trust myself with a gun or an axe on a chicken just yet. Maybe somedy.

Ok, as I promised Sidewing this morning, here is the hatching timeline in pictures:

7:00AM Monday...FREEDOM!!!!

Took this last one last night. 10 of the 12 chicks are very dark, which I thought was good, but the BCM thread says this is the more desirable chick pattern. Only 2 look like this. I am really curious to watch these as they grow

FWIW, these are the most social chicks I have ever hatched. Fat little butterballs that love attention

SO cute! My little girl had the tuxedo markings like that, so, so adorable!

11 Pekins and 3 runners aren't that loud, unless you're right among them. They love to make noise. Tons of it when it's feeding time.

So I just got an email from USPS that my eggs are being held for pickup at the post office.....in JACKSONVILLE! I call Jacksonville, spoke to the woman there and she said this breeder ships eggs every day with a big pink sticker of an egg on the package and there is usually never a problem but for some reason my eggs have been held and now misplaced! She's going to work on locating them and call me back.

Really? Never heard of this but am going to save this information. I would much prefer a method that doesn't involve direct contact. Thank you so much!!

OMGASH!! They better find em fast!
You would have to incubate with it floating in the bathtub

I'd love to have some of that dry air right now, though. We have had dew points in the 70s and 80s for almost 2 months. This is the hottest summer I can remember in 20 years
If you had 2 week old chicks, sitting in Maryland right now, waiting to be shipped, would you do it? Tomorrow?

Here's the National forecast for the next few days:

I want to say yes! I want these chicks!! I just don't know. . . I think we may go for it.

@Joyryder , welcome to the club. lol

@lazy gardener Thanks for the info on Rush Lane. Very informative channel!

Because they are grateful to have freedom!!! LOL Seriously though, they are cute. Love those big fluffy chick butts.

So I spoke to the manager at the post office in Jacksonville and at my local post office. The problem is that someone scanned the package as "arrived" instead of "ship out". A careless mistake. But the problem is that neither post office knows where the package really is because they can only go by the scans in the computer. Both offices are "assuming" it's on it's way. Second problem is that at the next stop if the employee doesn't look at the package and read the address and simply scans it, it may go back to Jacksonville. But if they read the package and see its addressed to NY, then they should send it up this way. Eggs tomorrow??

Awesome hatch! I hope that mine go well IF I get them. Still waiting.

I'm starting to wonder if there is not a solid rule about BCM chick color. It seems to me that the LP line has darker chicks, good copper, some unfortunate white later, and dark dark eggs. But there are other lines with light chicks and many of them have fading copper hackles or light feathers on the breasts or some other issue. My point is that I wonder if it's not necessarily a bad thing, but just the set of issues a breeder decides to deal with. But I'm a noob so maybe it is an indicator of something. I'm excited to see them grow out SC. I could be totally wrong, but it's a thought.

I feel the same way. Get feet on the ground and go from there. That's why I'm hatching late in the season. These will be laying before I sell them. Egg color will be a big cull point for me

It's been almost 24 hours since @WVduckchick saw that one of my eggs was pipping, I read about how sometimes call duck need assistance to hatch. Today is day 24 and I have 6 pipping. How long before any of you would assist a duckling to hatch?
