She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm going to speak without any knowledge and I hope that more experienced people that have been hatching for years can speak up and correct my assumptions as I am only judging by my own experience and conclusions. To me that yolk sac does not look like a healthy yolk solk. The green instead of the bright yellow/orange healthy looking yolk sacs that I have always seen (even in my late term deaths) would make me think infection.
I was going to say something about that too, and agree with you. That's why I said it looked to me like it had died several days ago. I can't see how it was living on that yolk sac...

I agree with that thought process.

My pullets are laying at 17 weeks. Unfortunately, I'm not getting the blue and green eggs that I was expecting. So far white and brown... and i've had to pull them out from under the coop with a rake, so I guess it's time to put a skirt around the coop. Hate to do that.

Question for anyone interested. I have seen a few people on BYC lately asking how long they can keep an egg and it will still hatch. How is it that a Barnyard hen will steel out her nest and come out with 16-18 chicks and you look in the nesting area and all eggs have hatched. Anyone care to explain how this happens ?

That is really interesting. I was thinking it was intestines/poo and normal. I suppose the long and short of it is that it's dead ^^;; It was a VERY active chick in the shell. Moving so much all the time.

Sorry, WV, but the one in the last pic is a boy...

Though I could be wrong...
None of my pullets have wattles that large

Now I'll have to find the post where you said pullet! Lol
They both look so much alike, I can mainly only tell them apart by the leg feathers. I'm not even positive which is which in my own pics. Their combs are a bit different, but both have those wattles.
And I haven't heard any crowing! Unless it sounds very different from other breeds. They do make a strange noise, but I didn't equate it to a crow. But maybe. What age do they normally crow?

I have to agree with you. The green us definitely not the healthy looking color it should be.
