She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hello All…..Just did my 10 Day Candling….Out of the 18 eggs still in the incubator, 15 are viable and 3 seem to be non-fertile.  (10 Buff Orpington and 8 High Noon x Leiper).

I did notice in some that the air cells seem a bit small and some others seemed more than ample.  How does the correlation work with Humidity and the size of the air cell? The higher the humidity, the bigger the air cell develops? or just the opposite?  All are welcomed to clarify for this rookie.  Thanks

Higher the humidity the smaller the air cell Wil be. Lower the humidity and the bigger it will ne. Egg porosity will also be a determinING factor in air cell size.

The opposite. Higher humidity keeps more moisture inside the egg. The air cell increases with lesser humidity. Porosity of the shell makes a difference too, and some incubators are inconsistent, depending on egg placement within, so you may have more than one factor at work.

Opposite... lower humidity to help air cells grow bigger and raise humidity if they are growing too big...

pretty sure she 's in a cage alone and have never found shell fragments .started thinking she might be a roo but no chance of that all my year old roos have big spurs. she's a black splash and supper sweet. I let her out and she follows me around or just sits in the shade .don't know what I'm going to do with her. :idunno

Interesting. Does she eat layer feed or any oyster shell or any of that stuff? I'm curious as to why one would not lay... I hope somebody has an answer

Oh...her first day was last Thursday but it went well. She loves it. I love it too!!!! ;) Although my 3 year old gave me a run for my money today. Lol!!! Have yours started already??? I. Sorry if you have already told me...I have a terrible short term memory.

Sorry, I thought it was this week. See my short term memory isn't so good either! It's "mom brain". Mine don't start until after Labor Day! But we did some school shopping today. I can't wait for them to go back (3rd & 4th grade) but I know as soon as they do, I'm going to miss them like crazy!!

She sounds sweet! Give her some more time, maybe? I'd have to google it.

I have an Araucana pullet... she's about 10 months old now... sweetest bird ever... never had an egg from her either... :idunno

I went to check on my little rescue chick this evening and he's doing great! I was so happy he made it and is doing good!! Also, my neighbor pulled out an egg from under the other broody and handed it to me. It was zipping!!! I talked to it and it peeped back at me! Amazing!!

My neighbor has a sick chicken that can't keep it's balance. It keeps falling over and can't walk. It came out of my mouth before I could stop it: "Meraks". After Don's lesson, that's all I could think of. My neighbor who has had chickens for 50 years, has never heard of it. I'm leaning towards vaccinating anymore chicks I hatch. I don't know what's wrong with his chicken but it could be, right?
Eta:spelling. Don't wanna give SC any fuel in the morning. ;)

So did you stick it in your bra and let it finish hatching? :gig

Does candling happen on day 7 or day 10? Also since I dont have a candler which would work better a regular flashlight or an LED?

For duck eggs, I wait til day 10... sometimes day 7 looks like clear but by day 10 shows the proper development... LED works better... or if you have a smartphone, I use the Super Bright LED light app... works great...
