She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I love how your answer to everything is a shotgun.

Not true. The one I use on the have-a-heart trap is a 22

Re: vent holes
Unobstructed ventilation holes, both above and below the eggs, are essential for proper air exchange. HOWEVER New Studies (Show Dr.Bramwell Discussion) have found that a slight decrease in oxygen the first 10 days (ONLY the first 10) creates a natural higher CO2 level which will naturally build in the incubator and add a little stress to young embryos which will force the embryo to survive and grow stronger, hatch earlier, hatch larger, grow stronger, grow faster and yeild more muscle mass at 6 weeks of age. PUT THE VENT PLUGS IN FOR THE FIRST 10 DAYS ONLY and then REMOVE ALL VENT PLUGS for the rest of the hatch!

That sounds very similar to dropping lotion in a basket. Intentionally suffocate them, but just a little, so that they learn to fight?
I love it

You must not have seen the Hardees commercials, then. Much more lascivious

I have read this before but I am a firm believer in "if it's not broke-you don't fix it" and all of my hatches since the bad first one have yielded strong chicks. Out of the 81 chicks I hatched out in the past year, I've only had 3 die after hatch. One due to ruptured yolk, one 9 days after hatch due to digestive troubles and one a week after and I have absolutely no idea what or why. No problems with hatching time- they are always early. As for how fast they grow, I have no complaints. It's my opinion they grow too fast lol

I still think of that raccoon commercial!!!!

"Here Kitty, Kitty!!!"

Reminds me of my mother.. we always had cats. Our cat would go outside, and when she wanted in, she would jump up on the back door, and hang on the window, and scratch the door with her back feet. One night I woke to my mother's screams. I jumped out of bed to look down the hall and she was huddled up on her bed, pointing at the back door, screaming. My step dad was asking what it was... she stumbled to say "P... Po.... Po.... Poss.... Possum!" She had opened the back door to a possum! I'll never forget that.
RIP Mom

Interesting. I hope Walnut comments on this... I believe she did some experimentation with this theory, I just don't remember the results...

If any critter messes with any of my critters they get a bad case of lead poisoning and then are never seen again or talked about to the neighbors.

Hard not to talk bout it when you're so proud of yourself, isn't it????

I totally forgot that I wanted to tell you guys about my first hatching egg nightmare! I had this dream last night that felt so real. My shipped eggs had come in and I put them in an egg carton to rest before setting them, on my kitchen counter. I was really hungry and decided to make pancakes. Without realizing it, I used all the shipped eggs in the batter. I sat down and was eating a huge mound of pancakes, butter, and maple syrup. The pancakes were so good! I was thinking "I wonder why these pancakes came out so good, they are the best"! And then it hit me. I ran and looked in the carton with the shipped eggs and they were all gone!! I panicked. My mom and my grandma were there, so I ran to tell them what I just did. My mom says "you're so irresponsible, you've wasted so much money on eggs, you better not buy anymore"! I was so upset!! When I woke up, I had one of those moments where you're so relieved it was just a dream!!

You gotta stop eating that much chocolate... or what ever before you go to bed. Good luck with your next hatch.

Read that. Agree somewhat with Amy. If it ain't broke, I'm not gonna fix it. Mama broody doesn't ever put her vent plugs in! Yet, I'd be reading any thread set up by a BYC person doing a trial with a good control.
