She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

guess I should add that's my opinion . not sure a second opinion from someone else would be the same . if you don't mind I won't get one .

Hmmmm... can't think of someone I know with those... I don't do Nekkid Necks or Funky Hairdos, lol...

lol. No funky hairdos???? I thought the same thing at one time, and both the nn and the funky hairdos have just grown on me...lol I've got the nn's and my last hatch yeilded a silkie nn cross (I still don't know if it's a pullet or roo yet.) If it's a roo, I'll breed him back next spring to my silkies, but I really want to find an already established line with nice fluffy heads.

I think you look just fine.... not like a chicken at all.

I'm pretty sure it is a DQ in all non-feather legged breeds.  I need to study the proposed SOP more though, once I get the next generation on the ground so I know what issues I need to work on first.

US ROs had Speckled Sussex mixed in at one point to improve spangling, which ruined the type.  There's a dedicated group of breeders trying to bring the breed back, and I'm just on the fringes learning what I can.

Think so too... and equally difficult to get rid of... if every breed was perfect life would be boring... ;)

My OH would disown me over those, lol... your Silkie cross, what was the hen and what was the roo? Some of those are sex-linked... I have a pullet that is Silkie/Cream Legbar, she just started laying green eggs yesterday...

I got 13 out of 13 hatched but 3 died overnight on thier second night. Found them in various places around the coop chilled to death in the morning. Also the last one to hatch was having trouble staying in the warmth do it spent most of the day in my pocket and is in box in front of the heater now.

Those are still parade numbers, if you are still in the mood for it after the mortalities. I've never thrown a parade in OZ

Well my overly crowing cockerel problem will probably not last too much longer. I went in to the run to close the people door to the shed, and the little **** dropped his wing and slammed into the back of my calf. I pushed him away with my foot and continued locking up. Went to check on my hurt Legbar (just looked at her in her hiding spot from 10 feet away, and the ****** full on tried to spur me in the back of the calf while my back was turned. Glad he doesn't have any spurs!

I kept backing him up but couldn't catch him. Later I went in and grabbed him off the roost, held him upside down by his feet and pinned his head to the floor until he stopped struggling. Then I calmly put him back on the roost.

He's got until this weekend to shape up, or he's culled. Wait - he will probably be culled anyways and I'll keep Jack and see how he does, even though he's not as "pretty".

They are both awfully pretty!

Thank you!

I want to hatch more Calls, lol... hard waiting for Lady Grey to grow up... saw some eggs on eBay... too pricey for me right now...

I'm curious, what are you looking for?
And there's always someone 'talking smack' to make you laugh too, lol...

Excitement and sorry in one post... Great hatch, sorry for the losses...

Nice, you can rock the baby and stare at the incubator at the same time! Hope the little one gets better soon. After I came in the house I waffled a bit on whether I would cull, then got a FaceTime call from my 3 year old grandson. He asked me if he could come see the chickens. He'll be visiting in a month and the thought of him being attacked made me sick. (Even though he would never, ever be let in the run alone with the flock.) I have mixed feelings. I also have Jack, who is the same age and doesn't even look sideways at me, and is much, much quieter. With a really small flock like mine, I have to be choosy in who stays and who goes. I'm just a hobbyist, trying to build a better Orloff. And that includes nice temperament.
It sounds like you already made your decision! :) good luck!!
Burrito pack with air cells up has been great with my shipped eggs, with single or double box.
Can you elaborate on the burrito pack?

A pic a day sounds great! I :love duckies!

Congrats on mama hatching them all!! She did a great job!! Were they her eggs or did you put different eggs under her? Do you think the 3 that didn't make it, were the last 3 to hatch? I always worry about the last hatchers, now that I've experienced one getting left behind. It really is a death sentence. :hugs

:weee :weee :weee :weee

Went outside this morning and noticed an egg in the duck pen.  Then found another behind a boulder.  Yeah!!  Juice is laying!!!   Nice big hard eggs too!

:celebrate :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate                    :yesss:

Aww, that's great!! Congratulations!!! That must be so exciting! I remember your first chicken egg and now duck egg!! Trust me, I can imagine how excited you are!! What kind of duck is Juice, again?
