She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Then I'd leave it at that and just monitor the cells and not worry about figuring out how to reduce the humidity unless the air cells aren't growing good.

I've gotten to the point I can't even stand the first beautiful snowfall....lol I honestly get booed every year up here for wishing for a green Christmas...lol
I think missions is hatching duck, so I would think it'd be a little early to see anything. I don't do ducks but you don't see development as early as in chicks do you?

x2! I'm with you on a green Christmas. I like snow a couple times a year, just to see it, but we got our fill (and then some!) last year, so I could do without any snow at all this year!
Even though we both know it ain't gonna happen!!

I believe ducks develop as early as chicks, but the shells are usually a little thicker/tougher, so its harder to see those first signs of blood vessels really early. My duck is laying really waxy eggs! Feels like there is an extra coating on them!

PS as far as humidity removal when your in a high climate I think Oz used rice, I actually have saved a bunch of those silica packets from newly purchased items, but havent had to use them yet!

They have them on ebay cheap too.... but I would be sure your calibrated before doing anything if you had not done so

What is snow?

Sally, seeing your young chicken tenders on the hoof makes me want to run a batch of CXR next year. It would be nice to process meat birds before they get all hormonal. I'm a huge fan of keeping DL in the run, and using FF. Both work well to keep the stink down, especially with CXR. Bee Kissed turns her CXR out to free range, only feeds them twice/day (FF). She gets good growth, they stay very active and hustle up most of their grub. None of the orthopedic or cardiac problems that they are often prone to.
We are raising CXR right now and we have them in a free range situation. There is some limping, but no real leg or heart issues so far. This weekend is harvest time.

These BCM are growing really fast. My BCM are way overcolored for their age. I'm expecting sidewing's to be much darker.
This Sunday's batch is also BCM. I'm trying to get 30 or so in the pen to see if I can salvage anything from this flock. If not, I will have to start over next year. None of my customers that come by know any of the faults, and I could easily sell them as BCM, but I wouldn't want to sell these to sell to someone that had a kid that was wanting to show. My birds need to be at least breeder quality, and right now I don't even have that.
My Ams aren't laying yet. I'm hoping they will start around late October

You can always sell them as dark egg layers right?

I can, and that's really what my customers want, but I hate having to explain the difference between show quality and pet quality every time someone comes over. I already have to do that with my silkies and d'uccle. Chances are, even if I sell them to someone as dark egg layers, that person will turn around and sell their chicks as BCM, and the cycle continues

I missed something, what was the question? If Sally is a yankee, it's awful down here

Yeah, the SC kinda goes right along with it, doesn't it?
Another member on this thread, sidewing, got what look to be some good BCM chicks several weeks ago. I've had fun posting pics of my good Ams, but when he shows up this afternoon I'm going to post pics of some badly bred BCM chicks so he can see the difference. If you know your birds, feel free to comment on them. I know they are off, and you won't hurt my feelings

Did some mushroom hunting in CO on a vacation in my 20s. That was an interesting weekend

Oh, BTW, I found a website as addictive as Amazon. Vistaprint. I need to get business cards because I'm getting a lot of referral customers now, so I made one up on Vistaprint last night. Once you get your card customized, before you go to checkout they plaster your image on a ton of other stuff that you can buy. T-shirts, hats, yard signs, car signs, calendars, etc...

In the spring I look forward to the ship a thon. While I won't have any quality birds to offer, I should have some interesting EE that are not your everyday EE...and some Narragansett and Golden Narragansett turkeys.
