She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So I just got an email from someone I've really been waiting and wanting to hear from aaaaaand.... next weekend I'm getting a dozen Icelandic eggs!!! I can't wait!! :)

Google here I come (dont know what those are) Congrats though!

How's the humidity holding up in the bator now?

They are gorgeous, I didn't know what they were either til I saw an ad on CL for them, I had to look them up too, lol. It's still holding right around 60%.

Icelandics are an amazing landrace breed... rare and need dedicated people to breed them... but if they get crossed with anything, ever, then they are no longer Icelandics... I know a few people with them... if I ever decided to just have 1 breed, those would probably be it...

I'll definitely keep them alone then. I mean seperate from all the others. I think the woman I'm getting them from deals only with rare breeds and conservation. She wanted $25/dz but said since I'm coming to get them she will let me have them for $15/dz

Ok, update on the Araucana eggs... 3 made it to lockdown, 1 is DIS... I have lost many shipped Araucanas after pipping due to malposition and whatnot ending in suffocation so I assisted the pipped egg... only opened the shell and outer membrane, made sure beak was clear and far enough out for air and lubed the membrane...

Couldn't tell if other egg was internally pipped or not, so I took a chance and opened it up too... dang good thing I did as it had pipped but moved and beak slid back in and was suffocating... opened enough of membrane to clear beak, lubed membrane and replaced in bator...

This is as far as I go with assisting... if they are strong enough they break out of the membrane on their own, and 95% do... if it doesn't then I really feel it just wasn't strong enough and wasn't meant to be...

So... I came home to this...

I love reading details about any assisting. I hope someday I get more confident with going into an egg. I do it/I've done it, but my hands get shaky and my stomach gets butterflies! So happy that some have hatched! How many more to go?

Even my FB friends are looking out for my chickens :). Aren't these cool though?

Omg...love these!! I love to crochet, but I didn't get to this past winter because the baby was just born. Wonder if I could find a pattern for one of those!
George apparently had a sister…
More tomorrow

Can't wait to hear this.....
