She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

three times the first ones turned out to be EEs. :rant which I would not have known had you guys not told me . the all black  black lavender splits should be laying in a few weeks. and now Rayvn's eggs when and If they hatch. and now a new problem the big red football that lives here is starting to sit in trees closer to my coops. can't let my chickens out without staying with them. I hope when I get the hay fields cut it will be able to catch rabbits and leave my chickens a lone. I have deflators but it is so big and pretty and all the chickens are covered. also deflating footballs is against the rules .:lau  SSS that farm boy he ain't so dumb .

I have my moments...

SC, what is a good price for a GQF? Any year that should be avoided? I see an ad in my locals for a 2011 model cabinet style for $550.

I've seen that listing as well. A lot bigger than I need, but I wasn't sure if it was a good deal. Seems like it might be a bit high.

Big bass, tiny ducklings?? Holy moly! I guess the Calls will definitely not go to my pond....
Big bass, not so tiny ducklings. He has muscovies so the duckling are a bit bigger than most. The ducks started raising ducklings in his pool till they were too big for bass to eat

I was at a pond with ducks once and it had some big catfish in it. One day I was fishing and there were some ducks a little was off, well I heard a splash and look up and there was only one duck were there had been two. A big cat ate it is my best guess. Sorry if I'm scaring you with horror fish stories.

Adult ducks ought to be fine

Sc beat me to it!
Yes, that makes sense to me too but if they were cold in the incubator, I would worry. I hand turn, so I'm touching eggs 5 times a day. The clears, the active ones and the quitters are all warm when I'm turning.
And those turtles love to snack on baby ducklings. I was watching baby ducklings swim behind their mom over the summer, at my neighbors and we saw turtle come up and pull one right under for lunch!!
Big Bass will take a duckling or gosling, too, if the opportunity presents itself, but in the 60 or so years I've spent fishing, I think I've only seen it happen once, and that was a Canada Goose. Not to infer that it doesn't happen more than I've witnessed, but I don't think the percentages are all that bad. My suspicion is that land-based predators like fox & coon account for more depredation than big fish & turtles ever do.....JMO, based on my own experiences.

Wow! Well yes that does scare me a bit, but in a good way. I will use more caution. So thanks!

$550 seems to be the going price of cabinet bators. There's 1 in my local CL for $550. There's another 1 that started out at $550 and they dropped it to $475. Both of those are Sportsman's, I cant remember the model though, 15 something? There's bunch of caninet style bators around me for sale. There's a real old school restored redwood cabinet bator on there for either $600 or $800. Then there's a HUGE like industrial type bator, I can't remember the name brand but it's massive, I think that 1 was like $4K. The 1 I like the best though is the hospital premature baby incubator turned egg incubator for $400, I could candle my eggs all day long without ever having to open it, even after lockdown ;)
