Congrats on selling your little ducklings!!! They are so cute!!

I used a dry paper towel to rub off some of the looser poop but left the rest.
Oh no!!! I don't want to stress you but....washing the bloom off will allow the poopy bacteria to seep into the shell!! :fl everything will be okay. I prefer not to let the eggs touch water period.

:) thanks! I miss em alot, but that money has already been spent on more poultry supplies :gig

I remmeber that your experience is exactly y i didnt try to wash mine! :lau so glad for all that you guys have taught me...

Now i have chickies :D these lil guys were staggered into my duckling hatch and theyre the only two who made it to lockdown, good news is, its so few i can keep em :D

Did ya hear that it was like popcorn? I could died :gig

Temp is pre-set 99.2 never been higher than 99.5 every time I've checked. Today was suppose to be Turner shut off so I didn't catch that they had pipped, I just had noticed while I was checking water levels. This hatch is all home hatch of mine and my friends bantams. Next hatch is nearly all shipped with a few home eggs..:/

Have you checked the temp against a calibrated thermometer? What's your plan for the shipped eggs?

I sure did :D I got 18 from 1 breeder, 1 of the eggs was cracked though so I had to throw it out but she had given me 6 extra anyway, I only paid for 12, and then I got a dozen from the other breeder and she gave me 6 extra also, I only paid for a half dozen from her. They were both really nice people. The breeder that I got the 18 eggs from told me to let her know how the hatch goes and she said if it doesn't go good she will send me replacement eggs. I saw all their Icelandics too, beautiful roos and hens. I can't wait to see what yhese little guys look like!

I really hope you have a great hatch!! Did you set them yet? I know this sounds crazy but this crazy hatcher on FB swears on spraying dirty eggs that needed to be washed with 50/50 water/original listerine mix to keep the germs out. I've never washed eggs but he's got a bunch of people doing it that swear it works. So I don't know!!?!

I have been so busy! Sorry im just now getting back to you! Daddy was here, since he was diagnosed with liver cancer around the this past Easter, ever minute i can have with him means alot to me.

I have one last pic my friend! Say bye bye duckys!

(Not my hand, The customers...)

And i sold my extra cayuga drake, so although i miss them, i am very pleased.

Then i made plans to trade my remaning drake for a previous contact's bird. That way we both have fresh blood :D

I would say that reccording everything you do financially with the birds is one of the first, and biggest steps! If you record how much you spend then you can figure out where you need to be to break even and what amount that you have to make in profit. But Dont let a break even point limit you either!

I feel like it really helped me with my flock when i used cheap and free building materials. I reused and recycled alot of wood and fencing and it has helped make an enourmous difference in the financial end of this endevor. Your usual buisness 101 would tell you to keep your. Product quality high, and costs low, in any ethical way that you can. A new example: I am looking into doing alot of gardening next year, to feed the flock, and lower my feed costs. Disclaimer: I will not, and do not cut my birds short of the nutrition in a balanced feed!

Contacts. There is never a substitution for experience, and making friends with experience. Aside from that: nothing like a happy customer who you have kept mildly in touch with. If it werent for our lil community, i would have no idea what i was doing. If it werent for the contacts i have made buying and trading birds: i would have 2 fewer friends and good customers... Relationships are super important in any buisness, but i find especially if you have live animals in question.

Rayvn for example: (i know you dont mind :hugs !) think of how happy her customers are and how she wants to please them? Dont you see a very healthy buisness corilation...

Its been too long! Missed tou :hugs for all!!

That's ok!! My dad has heart failure for the last year, so I completely understand and am happy you got to spend time with him! Those ducks were absolutely adorable and they are alive and healthy because you did such am amazing job assisting them! All of what you wrote is great info!! I'm a single mom to 3 boys, one only being 9 months old, so it's hard for me to have the time that I need to really trying to make a profit with these chickens. But I will keep in mind everything you said and as the little one starts getting older, hopefully I can start building some separate pens for the chickens and expand. (I know I can get pallets for wood for free). Also get out in the community and get involved with other local chicken people. But for right now I will sit down and make a log of all of the money I've put out so far. I was just thinking today, that next spring I want to start growing some vegetables early on so I can feed them to the chickens all summer!!!

I'm excited for this set for you!  Can't wait to see how they do, and to see them!

:frow hi-ya! I been seein you around here, an thinkn your not too far from me! Thats cool! I would love to know more people in poultry! Those chickies are mixed breed. I think theyre gna be a good color olive egger, the daddy is a BCM of terribly coloring and comb size and the momma is a cochin(sp?) hen... But you see the clean shanks so the genes arent breeder material. I dont have a
CHicken project, i have a turkey project, and a ducky project. :lau

Lol, I'm going to work on an olive egger project this spring. have been looking for BCM eggs, guess i waited too long. I want to get turkeys this spring also. I bought a dozen broad breasted bronze hatching eggs last month and all 12 turned out to be duds.. I think the guy sold them to me knowing they were way older than a week. Chicapee has royal palms so i'm thinking about some of them.

Hahahahaha the dreaded AC strikes again!! I'm really REALLY sorry to hear about your hatch! :hugs Morning guys:caf Hey, where's my fam at? Whtchu got going on this AM, @rossfam06 ? I'm thinking, 20/yoga 20/pilates 20/strength and then out for a run. Might even jump through a few barn windowns while I'm out there. So whatcha derrrin'? Huh? huh? huh? Good morning, Vietnam!!
You are so nuts and I loves ya!!! :hugs Seems like some extra energy you've got going now, eh? :D ;)
None of mine are for hatching, and I leave them all out. I do date them though. And he didn't use the oldest ones! He doesn't do much cooking either, but was home (unsupervised) yesterday! I date all the eggs and asked why he would leave ones from the weekend, but eat Monday's egg? He said 'I just grabbed some'... So I had to teach him a little lesson :D
They'll always go for the freshest or the ones set to the side... I think it's a temptation thing when we have certain ones set aside... :/
Well I was about to go for a freedom run... (without kiddo in a stroller) after I got home from dropping the oldest off at school but....Stella was awake. So now she is eating breakfast and well I may just run with her afterall...unless daddy wakes I time!!;) then I have to bathe n my Nebo (black lab) because he has a vet app this afternoon. He has been hurting and whining a lot because of his hips. :hit. I hope it will not be a sad day!!! :hit
:hugs Hope he's ok!!!

Great score and glad they'll get you more eggs if you don't have a good hatch... :)
you are absolutely right you are so off .;) but we love you anyway
x2 :thumbsup

No need to apologize for spending time with your dad!! That is fully understandable... great job with the ducklings and the trade off on Cayugas, just please don't forget quarantine... and hope you have an easy integration... Nope, I don't mind you bringing that up... I feel it's essential in good business to be honest and open about any flaws and to ensure to the best of my ability to give the customer what they are wanting... I just look at it this way... what and how would I want??? And go from there... Missed you!!! :hugs

Lol i know lots of people want the olive eggers and im not trying to be discounting their lives, i will be glad to raise my chickies! I enjoy herritage breeding and species conservation, and thats what my flock is going to be entirly geared toward eventually. I really enjoy my Bourbon Red turkeys. I had the opp to go with Royal palms, like our friend Chicapee, but i deccided i would rather the larger BRs. The Palms are beautiful though, and im sure you will be pleased with the world of personality that the turkeys offer us, i love them bad buggers! And Bad :gig... Spoilt!

Then i actually keep cayuga ducks, those yellow ducklings were the hatch of an uncles flock.
