She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

:hit I don't know what's wrong!!!!!! She was up and eating just fine yesterday. And now Nugget is acting like she's struggling to breath! I know she's going to die and there is nothing I can do about but it seems like something neurological. She throws her head back and stretches out her legs and wings.

WARNING!!!!!! Image may disturb some.

I'm sorry for you loss. Don't beat yourself up for working out. Sometimes it seems like no matter what we do, animals die. You can't be there 100% of the time.

Frmboy's right. Even if you were right there you couldn't have done anything to help her. Losing animals is part & parcel of animal husbandry.

And yes, they have plenty of room in their runs. The 2 are in a run that is 16' x 8', and the older 9 are in a run that is about 16' x 16'

I always ask that question because you'd be surprised how many folks DON'T have enough room! Then they wonder why their birds are beating each other up.
I wonder if a broody hatched snake eggs if they would ever go broody again?
Megan, girl... you're gonna give me bad dreams.

Ross, even if you'd been home and seen her issues, nothing would have changed, except that you'd have had the extra stress of watching her suffer longer. Unless you culled her. I'm glad you didn't have to go through that. Just keep a close eye on the rest of the flock for any other neuro issues.

You don't like clowns? I've heard/read about lots of folks who don't like them at all, but I've never understood why. Of course, I grew up with Clarabelle on the Howdy Doody Show; maybe that's why they don't bother me.
No I don't...lol They are evil looking.

I've hated clown ever since I saw Stephen King's IT. Ever since then I've been terrified of clowns.
Pennywise is the worst....lol I'm not terrified of them, but I hate them....lol
Are you hand turning? Cause it looks like a perfectly normal hand turned egg to me. Yes, an egg laying on it's side being turned periodically looks a lot different than one sitting up in a turner that is being tilted throughout the day. My first hand turned incubation (after doing 2 in a turner) freaked me out when I candled and they were so different.

So so sorry!

My turn for a question:
My red sex-link hens lay light-to-medium colored brown eggs. Occasionally they'll drop one that looks like it's been hit with overspray from a paint gun...white speckles all over the shell.

Other than the white speckles everything about the eggs appears normal.

Just curious what's causing the spots. No idea whether it's just one hen involved or not, since all six hens lay in one of two nests.

I googled it and found on BYC that moderator Judy has said not to worry, it's just color nothing is wrong with the hens. If they are bumpy spots, some members had suggested, make a separate hopper for calcium supplements so they can have just what the body orders rather than possibly too much for the individual in the feed.

X2 omg

The first pic that side looks like it's going to quit but then the other side looks great! I agree with WV, just a waiting game at this point. I will say that I've looked at eggs and thought they would definitely quit and they hatched. I've also looked at eggs that I thought looked "perfect" and they quit. So just control what you can (temps/humidity) and the red is up to them.
If she is hand turning the growth/development will look like it's developing on one side (the side of the egg that is facing up). When you turn the egg the development will turn and resurface on the side of the egg that is facing up. A prime example of why we turn eggs. :) If she's not hand turning, then it's a little weird...lol

Very interesting! I've never hand-turned. (but I couldn't help thinking of Blobby when I saw that pic)
