This 1 really bothers me.

Same egg, different angle. Looks good from this view

The first pic that side looks like it's going to quit but then the other side looks great! I agree with WV, just a waiting game at this point. I will say that I've looked at eggs and thought they would definitely quit and they hatched. I've also looked at eggs that I thought looked "perfect" and they quit. So just control what you can (temps/humidity) and the red is up to them.

My turn for a question:
My red sex-link hens lay light-to-medium colored brown eggs. Occasionally they'll drop one that looks like it's been hit with overspray from a paint gun...white speckles all over the shell.

Other than the white speckles everything about the eggs appears normal.

Just curious what's causing the spots. No idea whether it's just one hen involved or not, since all six hens lay in one of two nests.

Our farm has been doing the manure relocation too. I told my hubby that the birds must think we're awfully strange creatures. We play with their poo, moving it from coop to compost to be stirred and moved again and we steal their eggs. If that is all the interaction they notice from us, how odd we must seem to their society!
I never thought about that :/ Imagine being the chicken: "Did she just steal my eggs AND my poop? What the he** is going on?"

That 1 funky looking side has looked like that for 2 or 3 days so I'm hoping it will make it. I'm just worried about the chick if it does hatch, I wonder if he'll have alot of issues?
ETA: That was 1 of the dirtier eggs too so I fully expected it to quit, it has surprised me so far.

I have no eggs yet, so no experience here but I was just thinking, as I was reading your post that I wonder if it's one specific girl that lays the egg. :)

I would not worry about that. Usually chicks that have lots of issues, don't make it out of the shell alive. Just cross your fingers till lockdown!

Is it just white color, or are you talking bumps, like extra calcium deposits? And how old are they...how long have they been laying? I got some bumpy ones early, but not for quite some time now. I do get ones occasionally that look sprayed/splattered with extra brown paint. I think its just a process of the paint booth within the hen. I've also gotten ones that were brown on one side of the egg, and almost white down the other side. I'm talking fat tip to pointy tip, not brown on one end, white on the other end. Her paint booth definitely had a clogged sprayer that day!

No, no bumps; nothing I can feel. They're all less than a year old; bought them from Southern States this past Spring, then waited another 5-6 weeks for the first egg. Never thought about your "paint booth", maybe I should add some varsol to their water

I like this page about egg differences... http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/01/how-hen-makes-egg-egg-oddities.html

And I'm thinking if you add varsol to the water, you surely won't have any more egg problems! You won't have any eggs, period!
