She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

My DH would KILL me! lol
I know right?!? I've hinted about them to my hubby since I absolutely love the rare and different breeds and that's all I want and he likes the rare 1's too but with the ACs he doesn't seem to share my enthusiasm ;) lol.

I don't know about the Ogye but the ACs are black throughout, everything about them is black, organs, meat, inside of their beaks, tongue, everything is pitch black. They lay a cream colored egg though I think.
Ever heard of cancer in those all-black birds?
Only reason I bring it up is because of something I was told many years ago when I was breeding tropical fish. The half-black Guppy had been developed, & I was interested in developing strain of solid black ones, until I was told that if I succeeded, which was doubtful unless I wanted to spend a lot of time & $$, the solid blacks would die of cancer due to all the black pigmentation.

I have no idea whether the same problem could exist in birds or not, but thought I'd mention it.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you:fl

The third egg did not internally pip.  It's head was tucked underneath it's wing.  Thank you.  It's just so sad for the little one to have come this far and then not make it.  The little ones foot is still bandaided flat.  How long should I leave it on?

Thank you.

If it didn't internally pip then there is really nothing you could have done, imo. I know a couple people that will go into the membrane and try to pull the beak out with shipped eggs but we call them "orange" because they are way past "red"...lol!

Thank you! Yes, I think you did see that. Glad you think I handled it well, I was afraid I seemed maybe a little overzealous, lol.
Well you better tell her there's a frizzle somewhere that has her same name, lol. Hopes she likes chickens and doesn't take that the wrong way! The breed was ayam cemani. Very new to the US are very rare, and even though the vast majority of people have never seen them in real life let alone bred them, some will try to tell you all about them. Looks like Ravyn already answered this for you though, I just saw :)

Oh, I saw later that you said someone on the NY chicken lover board breeds them. That would be me - and now Purpletie, she bought some eggs and chicks from me and is getting started.
They are really beautiful! You have to be careful on eBay, there are one or two sellers who may be legitimate, but a lot of them are scammers. There is one in particular who will sell eggs to people, and when they hatch half will have chipmunk stripes! Then they will tell their buyers that these are 'wild type' cemanis. There is no such thing. And they get away with it and eBay removes any negative feedback left about this due to some kind of loophole. We've had quite a few people scammed like this come and ask about it in the AC thread.

Did you bring AC eggs to chicken stock? I'd love to see a couple pics if you have time to post them here. I'm on the mobile app, so I don't know how to go and find them, otherwise I would...I'll still try.

I have a Korean ogye. And it's just as beautiful!!!! Although it does have some birches bleed and it's rumpless!!!! It's super cute. I will have to take a recent picture and post it tomorrow. I will not be home until late tonight. At a walk to lymphoma.

Yes, I remember you hatching those. I'd love to see pics now too. I remember the baby pic.

I went from purple to red real quick but I'm stopping here. Orange would drive me over the edge

lol.

At least he likes them. My DH is so country, a chicken is just a chicken to him no matter what color or personality. He drives me crazy sometimes, lol

@ Ross: WOW, they are VERY similar, are they the same size as the ACs? Very pretty, I'd love to see pics of your's!!

O WOW, how can you tell them apart?  They are just as beautiful.  Do these breeds produce only dark meat??

They do have black meat throughout. They are cousins to the AC. But I think they are older. There is not much info on them because they are still pretty new to the states.

I have a question about cockerel behavior. My boy bites all the girls on the back of the neck but no mating. They are a month younger then him and try to get away from him when he bites them. Is this normal? Will they mate when they are older and will they start submitting to him?

Yeah, I tried it once on an egg that I knew I was going to loose. It was like surgery! If they are not positioned right to internally pip, finding the beak under the membrane is near impossible!! It was way to much!

My black mollies were prone to tumors.

I think the issue is that he's older than the girls. Not a good situation, and in a flock with more than one cockrel, can lead to gang raping. This is when it's beneficial to have a few mature biddies to flog some manners into that delinquent. Can you put him in rooster jail until the girls are at POL?

I'd have to read up on that, I've never heard anything about it but I guess it's possible.

Mine is normally like that, he actually surprised me when he showed interest in the different rare breeds of chickens I wanted. Normally he just responds to everything with "Uh hu" and then if I ask him a question about what I had said he'll have no clue what I'm talking about cause he wasn't actually listening and just responds to anything I say with an answer he thinks I want to hear, lol.
