She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Mine's "all hat & no cattle" If I'm walking along the fence he'll actually run into it, head down, neck outstretched like an angry goose, trying to get to me or intimidate me. The minute I step through the gate, though, it's game over; he keeps as much real estate between us as he possibly can. That comes, I figure, from the first & only time he actually made contact with me; he caught me in the calf, and when he made another run he was met with a boot toe under the chin. End of problem.

:highfive: Sounds about how it was happening here and about the same resolution too :) Now all is well. I still don't drop my guard with him, but so far it seems settled.

Same here. No more transgressions, but he bears watching.

Our boy did it to both me and DH within a matter of a week. I was in the run and he pecked my leg from under the ramp. I had the feed bucket in my hand, so I backed him into the corner with the bucket between us. He hasn't come at me since. DH used your approach :D

My silkies from my April hatch have just returned to laying after hatching chicks.

My surprise was Silkie eggs!!!! BBS eggs to be exact!!! I sure hope they are fertile!!!!! I can't wait to check neXT Saturday for fertility!!!! My Wicket still has not started laying....she was hatched in late April early May. ...she still may be just a tad bit on the young side. Lol!!!

Silkie Selfie!!!! Lol!!!

On another note....I am watching a 3 way stand off between 3 Robins fighting over the bird bath.

Oh, that makes sense. I'll have to relax the "No one touches but me" rule, though, to get a late-morning/noon turn in. I could easily do an 8am, noon, 4pm, 8pm, midnight schedule, if I have either my husband or older daughter turn at noon...

Amy, IMO (take it from where it comes!) having your eggs on a precise or nearly precise turning schedule doesn't matter much, as long as they get turned at least 3 times/day... and I don't even sweat the 3x rule after day 14. Of course more is better, but... # of hours between turning is of little consequence. If I'm in the kitchen, and have a moment, and think of it, I flip my eggs! That being said, I write everything down, cause it's awful easy for me to forget when I last turned them.
My DH tries that on me... not necessarily something he wants to buy but anything... he'll say, "I told you last week."

Thank you. I'm actually afraid to take it off. The band aide I used might be too sticky. The other chick keeps pecking at it so maybe she'll get it off for me, lol. I'm referring to them both as females hoping it makes a difference, lol

In my case, my hubby often will tell me something, and B/C I suffer from CRS, I often react to the second or third telling, or the actual doing of the event with total surprise!

Exactly, lol, no communication here either, I think you're hubby is the long lost brother of mine, lmao

Men in my family suffer this issue with a vengeance!

Hubby and I were talking about the chicks the other evening and he actually said "I really like the black and gold ones"... My golden sebrights. I was shocked lol. He really does love the good ole golden comet girls though, because they are so sweet and friendly... He calls them his girls.
My LO cockerel has only been interested in the older silkies. I haven't seen him try anything with the girls the same age. I was planning to move the LOs tomorrow, but the silkies are staying. Now I'm wondering if that's a bad idea. The boys won't have any older girls and might start on the younger girls that aren't ready yet.... Hmmmmm... What do you think?
I'd definitely leave the older girls with them. When there aren't enough sexually mature females, IMO, that's when the most problems arise. Long live the multi-age flock!!!!

I just realized that you quoted me lol, I was thinking I should probably take him out of the run. The other roo is wonderful, he loves all the hens and protects them quite well, I've never seen him bully them or even be slightly aggressive with them, he's very laid back. But the other 1 is just hateful to the hens, all of them. He wasn't like this til we lost 1 of the original 2 hens, up til then he was just as laid back and level headed as the other roo. But he loves people, more than his own kind I think, lol. He'd rather sit and stare at me or my daughter than be with the others. And he chases all the hens off when they get close to us, it's really bizarre. I've tried to let him know it's not acceptable and when I yell at him he stops but he'll do it again 5 minutes later.
This roo, in his behavior makes me wonder if he's too imprinted on humans, and views YOU as his flock, and runs the chickens off so they won't interfere with his flock. Because he is hen aggressive, I'd invite him to dinner.

For the weapon enthusiasts here I thought I'd share my good news... Got my concealed permit in the mail yesterday. I'm a pistol packin mama now

Congrats. Hubby and I went that route a couple of years back. Good to be prepared. I don't always carry, but... there are times when I'm glad I can. Maine just passed legislation that any one can CC now.

Thanks! Why is MD so screwed up on guns?
Won't be long before the rest of the country tries to follow suit.

Lol, I understand a little better now. I should have seen it before. As many dogs as I've owned I know staring is always issued as a challenge, I just never placed that same behavior with chickens, if that makes sense. I don't know if you saw but I edited my response earlier to say that the only time he runs the hens off is when I'm handing out goodies and hand feeding dandelion greens and stuff, could that still be him seeing us as a threat or could he be trying to get all the food to himself? He doesn't normally stare us in the eye, he'll glance in our eyes at times but he rarely holds eye contact longer than a second or so. He mainly sits at the fence beside us and kind of fluffs up and dozes off in the evenings.
My roo is recently becoming "treat selfish". When he does this, I'll drop the treats right at my feet, and not allow him to approach. I use a little fiberglass fence post and goose him when he approaches. If he persists, I offer the treats on one side of a gate, and keep him on the other.
