She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Oh sweet little babies :)

It is.  Our very first hatch was solely for a school project, had no  plans to raise chickens, not the least bit interested. Until Peep hatched from our compromised hatch and we couldn't let him go-of course he needed friends and we had to try again...lol. We've got to watch multiple hatches and see differences in chickens and growth and learned so much that added to the "school" experience, but the broody experience let's us observe the natural growth and life cycle. I think he's gotten quite a bit out of seeing a calm broody versus a ferocious one and watching how momma protects and teaches her babies. It really does add to the experience and learning process.

Adorable!
Thank you :D I'm loving #3 and 4, lol. They're all cute but those 2 are just adorable

Those are awesome. That one whitish with the gray looks a lot like our Frosty that was hatched this morning...lol

Yes i think you need Holloween names!!! Didnt u love Amys new names?!
Thanks. The only reason they are already named is because of the eggs going cold....lol The trio that was hatched two weeks ago still aren't named..lol Heck most of my hatchers from June don't have names...lol

I know i appreciate just what you have taught me, from the other side of the screen! I had no idea that u never intended on keeping chickens at all until Peep though!

ETA: He hatched late lastnight/early this morning, they may have hatched at the same time, that would be pretty cool, lol

Nope. My sister has raised chickens for about 7 years or so and when I was talking about doing oviparous animals as part of first grade science she offered her bator and some eggs and good luck. lol Anything that hatched was supposed to go back to her ASAP...lol I still have her bator and many more chickens...lol Over a year later....lol Counting the new babies, I have 39 chickens in two coops and runs. Only 3 of those came as chickens from my sister, 31 are what I kept out of my hatches and 5 are the broody babies...lol At this point I don't plan on adding anymore to my mixed flock. Next spring the plan is to downsize the first coop and move the mixes to the second coop and use that coop for silkies/future showgirls. I have a deal with a great gal, Ruby, to get some silkie eggs in the spring (I LOVE her birds), and start an improved silkie line. I'd like to get some SG eggs, but I also am going to use my silkie/nn cross to start my own as well. I would like to add 4 or 5 more spitzhauben girls to the mix as well, but last time I hatched them out of 11 I ended up with 2 girls! One I sold in a group of extras cause I thought I had more, but they fooled me and I ended up with 1 out of the 6 I kept....lol

of course! Am i not the one who sold almost her Entire First Hatch three days after their hatch?!

The 14 bresse are my project, the 14 browns are for sale as high prod darker layers, the 13 green i want to keep, but i would let em go, and the two isbars are my only ??? I still know at least two, maybe three people, who want to pick up their pullets numbs

i will eat any extra roos... Im down to only two roos on my property and one is a silkie that i dont want. I only have 13 hens all told in chickens so i can afford to drop these feet! I appreciate your concern though, i know it is a rather large hatch! I figure its the last hatch for awhile and any of these girls that i cant sell, would be worth more in spring anyway, as POL pullets

one way or another, theyre gonna work for me, as long as i dont do this again next month

That's awesome. I love how we can learn from each other here, and I need to learn your sales mind!

Any Icelandic names y'all can think of? I've thought of Ingrid, Astrid, Baltasar, Erika, Helga... I'm having a hard time with boy names, lol. Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, lol. Or Stoic.

Loving those names. I'm researching names for my sebrights, going with the first letter of their colored leg band, British type names that sound "small", since they are such little boogers. Like the male wearing a blue band male may be Bryce... I'm still working on it.

I like Bryce, that's cute :)

U can totaly do it! I have worked dilagently at making the start of a local network. Those people all want to expand now, and i have the good incubator to do it for em :) I really Need all of You also so that i can provide the best lives possible for them! Then, it may be easier for me Because, all of this was taken on, with the underlying mindset that they may not be for keeps. I have always loved critters and i knew it would be easy for me to go Way overboard, so i only have 2 "pet" chickens, other than them, (and my turkeys, uhhhh.... ) anyone else could be sold for the right amount of cash, and that personal seperation from jump is important for me. Also important that i have my couple lil pets, or else i wouldnt be happy... and: I am one of the lucky few who read the book Before i fell in love :) that made the mentality easier... But you are a smart enough woman that i am Absolutly Positive that you can and will come far enough as to emotionally seperate yourself when the time comes.

This is obviously the wrong time of year, but are there any swaps near you? I found one of my favorite contacts at a swap, and two other contacts who fequent the swaps. My local market is where i stand to gain, is that the case with you? Others, with breeds most people dont understand, like Pyxis, are better off here on BYC and Ebay. Rayvn and BYC910 have been doing well at the auction, and if thats a viable choice, then so be it... Most of our local vendors are pretty good around here. I know that you know how to ask the right questions to learn about the person behind the pretty birds...

Woke up this morning to a new fuzzy butt!! That makes 6 so far and there's also another pipper. That leaves 1 egg that hasn't done anything so far. I'll candle that 1 in a little bit since he hasn't done anything yet.
ETA: Just candled and he's still alive. He apparently doesn't want to come out of that egg, lol.

YAY!!!
My 2 ducks have pipped but they are still talking over when to come out.

that's funny... talking it over

Are you candling down into the egg from the big end, NOT the side or bottom? Have you checked out the candling thread on here?
Yes and yes. And, I hold the egg still and move my light all around the egg. My first eggs, not knowing about detached air cells and all of the risks, I was actually setting down on my Brinsea ovascope. I won't be doing that with these until way later when I know all is ok. I've checked out so many sources on candling that I actually have dreams about it now, lol.

I know!! And thanks. I'm glad too.

Meet "Black Ice" or "Ice" for short

And "Frosty"

Mama and the Trio:

BEAUTIFUL

I must say... the little ones we hatch are darling, but it doesn't get much cuter than a momma with babies.

Adorable! And Ice and Frosty are soooo sweet looking
x2

K, I'll start with this 1, my signal is being stupid today so I'm going to wait a little bit before I try to post solo pics, sorry y'all
