She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Awww poor little man.  :hugs  :hugs  for both of you.  Hope he gets to feeling better quickly.

Nice!  Is that a shower drain pan with the water in it?  If so, that's an awesome idea!!

yes it is. Put that in to protect the floor from the messy ducks lol. DH is going to bring home a scrap piece of mesh to put on top so the water can drain and keeps the bedding from mucking it all up.

Thank you everyone for the concern and warm wishes for me and my little man. He started with a regular cold on Friday night. Congestion, runny nose, cough and low fever over night. But he was still playing by himself and eating good. Then yesterday when I was nursing him for a nap, I could tell a fever was starting. Then his little heart looked and felt like it was beating out of his chest and he looked like he was having trouble breathing. So I put him in the car seat and went to our pediatric urgent care center. The nurse took his vitals and left the room. The dr came right in and said they were calling an ambulance to take him to the children's hospital in New York City. I stayed calm because this is my third boy, and I have a few hospital trips under my belt. Long story short, his fever spiked to 103 and caused the high heart rate and some tests and X-ray showed a viral respiratory infection in his lungs. Oh yeah, and a double ear infection. So he's not happy but he's holding his own. Started an antibiotic at the ER for a the ears and the respiratory virus will have to run its course. His coughing fits were so bad overnight, I basically slept while sitting on the toilet seat and holding him with the hot water running in the shower. I'm beyond tired. But glad it wasn't more serious! Now I'll try to catch up if I don't fall asleep reading! I have a few chicken behavior questions too.

Poor thing!!!! You both. I hope he feels better so you can get some sleep. :hugs

Finally got the interior part of the coop completed!

Now just need to put up the trim & soffits on the exterior. Then order the 300' fencing for the final run. For the time being they have a decent 28' x 28' run.

I wish I had enough land to have a chicken palace this noce!!

Hello, I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I live iin Greenwood SC. I just got my awesome coop yesterday and my first chicks are on there way.

Welcome to the thread!! I love the coop. I was going to ask if they would free-range or if you were planning on making a run, but Walnut beat me to it. ;) I do both. You're going to love keeping chickens!

Love the coop @Tina1972!

I'm getting really with the plastic covering I'm putting over the top of my run to keep the weather out this year. It keeps pulling loose from the zip ties :barnie It just will not stay attached. It's not the zip ties that tear, it's the plastic that tears away. And the chickens that will not quit roosting on top of that run at night are not helping. Anyone have any suggestions besides going and buying new plastic?

Can you staple it down? Finished mine a couple of weekends ago but I didn't need to do the roof.

I wonder if they make clear tarps? I was hoping to get something that let the light in and was see through, which is why I originally went with the plastic. But it's driving me crazy with its insistence on falling off the run at the slightest provocation, lol.

Yes, they do. I will pm you the link and they have grommets in them.

Wow! I thought I had a bad day. :hugs

I lost 2 chickens in one day. And its hubby's birthday. :hit

Oh no!! :hugs

For those that missed it on the "other" thread while this one was down, I found a dead chick in the coop this morning when I went to gather eggs. No signs of predator, no blood, no bugs, no trauma, just dead. I believe eggbound, but I'm still researching on that.
Today was hubby's birthday, so we decided to take a trail ride on the side by side, was gone for a few hours. Got back, did a head count and a chick is missing. Looked all over for her, no sign of her or anything anywhere! It was Floppy, his favorite chick. Waited till dark, she never came back.
I'm so bummed. She was the sweetest chick of all. Thinking haybale or fox maybe got her.

Oh no! That's so sad. How old were they? What happened with the egg bound one?

Ummm....a 10 month old???. Candy overload! ! :lau

I can't believe you caught that!! :gig
:highfive:

Hold on to the thread!!! Here comes the SPAM again!!

My app is totally not working properly. My whole account is whacked out!!

Everyone always says what wonderful broodies silkies are. I have four that have not gone broody once....lol I recently found out that bantams are too, and I have to say that my little Jap is a wonderful momma. My Spitz has  potential, she was good at sitting and she's wonderful with the banties babies, (she's like the cool aunt), but with her own new babies, she sucked. She wanted to be right out there in the run and scratching dirt 24 hours after hatch, in the cold, ignoring her babies. She lost one and I have the other in here with me.

How is the baby doing btw? What's the game plan for flock integration?

I just realized something... I set 31 flockin Call eggs... if they all hatch, that is 31 poop machines on 2 webs...

Oh, and I ordered some more eggs today too...

Yay!!! What day did you set??

Well... they're more Call eggs... 6+... found them on eBay, but they're a BYCer I know... I tossed a bid on them not really expecting to win... guess the time change messed people up on bidding... got them very, very cheap...

They are not from Long Island or jersey are they?

That sucks, but glad it's not worse... get rest, mom... can't take care of him if you're falling over... :hugs

That is one bad@$$ poultry palace!!! :thumbsup

@RubyNala97 I set the Call eggs on Halloween Day, so they're due Thanksgiving Day... :/

And no, the eggs I bought aren't coming from either of those places... pm me if you want to know name, I'll let ya know how they arrive and how the do... :)

So here's my question & a little back story. Past two days chickens have been going bonkers like there is a predator. Then I go into the run and talk calmly to them and they settle down, only to start up again when I go into the house. I haven't seen any predators. It's so nice today I let them out to free range. I heard the commotion again. I watched through the window and my newly identified black cockerel, who just started crowing, is relentlessly chasing and biting my favorite pullet, who is exactly one month older then him. And everyone is freaking out, watching him do this to her. So obviously, he's trying to mate her, right? And she's doing everything she can to yell and get away from him. So will he just keep trying?? Will she eventually want to mate with him? I was so mad at him for Being so mean to her that I put him into "bad cockerel jail". (I tried a time out in the run first for about a half hour and as soon as I let him join the others he started again and she ran and hide between my feet). So the others are free ranging and he's stuck in here. Give me advice, please!

Oh that works out good!! Except you might be assisting eggs on thanksgiving!! Lol. I was asking because I keep seeing this one farm (can't remember right now if it was Long Island or NJ) and I looked into them and they are like a duck mill. Just trying to sell as many eggs as possible. They are selling all year in cold weather. Calls and I believe black East Indies. But I read bad things, so just checking. What days will you candle and update on?
