She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I did have a pullet drop one just the other day when I picked her up. I also witnessed my little cochin bantam drop one, just after the cockerel tried to mount her.
My duck was picking a new spot about every week to 10 days. I built her a small shelter and she laid her egg in it for about a month, until last weekend, when I was gone. She laid Saturdays egg in the shelter, then Sundays got laid in a different spot, so all last week she laid them in the spot where she had laid on Sunday. Yesterday I had 2 in that spot, so it wasn't that she didn't want to lay 2 in the same spot. I don't know why she changed.... Oh yes I do... She's a duck! Lol

Ducks must do that as a protective instinct, figuring if they lay them in different places the predators won't key in on particular spots. On the other hand, they maybe do it "just because they're ducks" (I like that).

I think it is because they are domestic ducks. The wild mallards that sneak nests into our rhododendrons or other protected places lay a clutch of 12-14 in one spot and sit them. We usually find the nests because she will roll duds out 15-20 feet away, so we just do a search radius.

hard to remember where we are sometimes when we're having fun . also what seems harmless to some others find offensive .:idunno you just never know. if fear of offending others rules the world then nothing would ever be said . I for one refuse to live like that . I always try to consider others .it's helps to keep my foot out of my mouth . but am not going to let it rule my life.So every once in a while I have to stop and pull out afoot or two besides I need them to walk . now some chick pictures not good though. this one left the hatching party early
Cute little ones!!!!! I should be setting again this friday!!!

Chester ain't as bad as Earl. that was the name of a 2yr old Jack Russell we were given by a lady who had to keep him crated all day. He had the run of the house & 3 acres here for the rest of his life, til we buried him a year ago; he was about 14-15, near as I can tell.
My aunt had jack Russell's. Wonderful dogs but definitely not meant for a crate. They need exercises and lots of running. Glad he found you!
Our chicken eggs go on lockdown in less than 12 hours

:fl good luck!
It was tomato and basil chicken sausage. Good stuff, and a good use for surplus roos, cockerels and stew hens because a grinder makes them very tender. http://ruhlman.com/2013/03/chicken-sausage/ I am traveling this week...in and out for the first couple of days, then gone through Monday. I want to experiment with chicken and bacon sausage with red onions and mozzarella cubes. Grill it up, put it in a bun and drizzle with BBQ sauce, and have a BBQ chicken pizza sandwich!
That sounds really good! Wish you could cook for me!
Hey, my cat's name was Peanut. I rescued her at about 1 week old and she was a Peanut. Fought hard to keep her alive. She was a peanut right up to earlier this year when I finally got her fixed. She's not a Peanut anymore...lol she's 2 1/2. Here's her as a baby taking her bottle:
What an adorable picture! I love it!
So, I did a quick development check on the Call eggs... started with 31... all 16 eggs from our new group weren't fertile... but Lady Grey's are and so are the shipped ones... so 8/12 shipped Calls and 3 of Lady Grey's eggs are developing... Oh, and Lady Grey didn't lay an egg yesterday, or again today... picked her and Crash up tonight to bring them in and an egg fell out of Lady Grey at my feet, right into the rocks, lol...
That's great for shipped eggs. What day is today? Tell her she can't break those eggs when she lays them! :gig

These are great pics, K!! Looks like you had an awesome hatch!! Glad you like the new hatcher!
Yep! She thought they weren't laying... decided to dig out the pond by hand to make it bigger and found a bunch on the bottom... :gig
Not fun if you're hoping for eggs to eat or incubate!

Say hello to the newest ayam cemani on my farm :love

Her middle toes are clear instead of black, which means they will turn black with age, but it's not as good as them being actually black so I probably won't keep her for my breeding flock. Tonight I think I'll slip her under Snap, who changed nests again and lost all her eggs that weren't killed during her other nest changing shenanigans.

Oh!!!! I want!!!! :love. Super cute!!!

I have a question about oyster shell. First, does it act like grit? Or do you still need grit? And second, if you use egg layer feed, do you still need oyster shell?

She is very, very adorable! How do you sex them as chicks?
