She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

How did you get involved? I'd really like the boys to join.
Looks perfect!!
:yesss:
This is not right! So they were shipped express and then the tracking shows the never left CA? I had an issue with eggs being shipped from Jacksonville to NY. The person in Jacksonville accidentally scanned the box as "received" instead of "ship out" or something to that nature. So tracking showed that the packaged had already arrived before it ever left. No one knew where it was and there was no way to track it further because according to tracking it arrived at its destination, even though it hadn't. It did showed up a few days later. But I know how upset I was and they were eggs, not even live chicks. It's so frustrating when this stuff happens. Please keep updating us. :hugs
It's terrible what people have done to the breed. I know there's a website to try and educate people called "hate the deed not the breed" or something like that. I would also only buy a pit from a reputable breeder, now that I have kids. Once the kids are grown I would love to rescue a few that have been abused and work with them and give them a safe, loving home. Some people try to breed them to look and act aggressive. It's just sad. I know first hand that the one I had, would not have hurt a hair on my head. He was the sweetest boy ever and he was very protective, which was good because I was living in the city. I felt safe walking the streets at night with him on a leash.

:) ive told you i live in a ghetto right? Im not embarassed about it because im buying my first home at 26 yrs old. Those girls are seriously my protection though. Thats exactly why they are here, jus like your boy kept you safe. When i moved up here my daddy made me get a can of mace, once i got the dogs, he stopped callin or textn me Everyday.

I understand both you and AmyL, and your fear of dogs bred for the wrong reasons. Obviously rescues are very difficult and yes even dangerous, with children. But i tell you, the neighborhood kids are more scared of the turkeys than the dogs ;)

Thanks :hugs

My concern is that they were shipped by express - guaranteed to arrive yesterday. Not only did they not arrive, but the tracking hasn't updated once since the arrived to the first sort facility, as if they never left. The never made it to my local sort facility - one person did check that for me. She also gave them my number for them to call if they came in today so I could make arrangements to get them, and they haven't called, which leads my to believe they didn't make it to my local facility today, either. So they were supposed to arrive yesterday, the tracking information hasn't updated at all since two hours after they were first shipped, and they're just in the wind :(

Hows it goin?! Im so worried about your littles... I hope you get them people.

And i thought i had hit the button :/ AmyP, i had told them not to give me a parade because my hatch was only 89% and i recalled the rules on them at 90 for local and 75 for shipped. Am i remmembering incorrectly? I know that we discussed possibly changing rules, at Rayvns request, because she argued that it might be a little unfair to hold ourselves accountable for the #s that hatcheries and/or cabniets achieve.

Still no sign of them. I'm currently on hold with the USPS's 1 800 number, and this time I can wait hours if I have to. Someone will talk to me today. I also called my local post office and the woman who I like and used to own chickens herself was there manning the desk today - she has set out to find out what she can. And the seller is also finding out what she can. The seller has offered to reship more chicks if these guys don't make it alive, so at least I will end up getting chicks, but that doesn't make this okay. I am really worried about these little guys out there floating around and slowly running out of time. This is all just unacceptable. How do you misplace a box of live animals?

Not hard at all when you don't care.

I do remember that discussion now that you mention it... But it sounds better to whine that I wouldn't've gotten one anyway

, 'cause 75% of 6 is 4.5, so 5 would've had to hatch ( or 6, with the "mini-lockdown" eggs added).

Personally, I totally forgot about trying to talk to SC into a parade since he was hanging out. I feel it should be 85% for home grown/local eggs and I don't know about shipped. If you get 50% shipped that's supposed to be good so what do people think is considered "Parade worthy" for shipped eggs. If SC doesn't want to continue with them, that's fine, but if we are going to continue the "parades" I want it to be agreed upon and fair for everyone. Not everybody has a fool proof bator. The other thing is broody hatches. I think broody hatches are a different category. I don't mind doing parades for incubator hatches, but I'd rather not get into broody hatches. Parade stats from lockdown rate-all agreed?

Another thing- rounding. If I do parades I will be rounding down not up. If 4.5 is the number needed that's saying that 4 have to hatch-not 5. (The .5 can be considered the growth that made it alive to lockdown and didn't make it.)

LOL. I never claimed to be normal, my dear....lol

Well, I've changed my philosophy quite a bit since my last hatch! I used to leave chicks in the incubator for 12-24 hours. With the last hatch, I had my eye on those wrong end pippers and the hatched chicks kept seriously knocking the pipped eggs around. One pip got pushed flat up against the window. It got me thinking about the nest and the chicks would be asleep under mom after hatch, while the other eggs were still hatching, not bowling the eggs around the nest. Since you helped me with the hatch, I started moving chicks to the brooder right after hatch. And I will continue to do it that way from now on. I kept the brooder around 100 too and they did fine and seemed calmer in the brooder then the incubator.

Another shipped Call egg...

Sorry pics aren't better, was hard to get even decent pics... :/

Awesome pics!! Thanks for posting these! What date did you set?

Well, no matter how I massage the numbers, I don't get to try to talk sc into coming out of parade retirement... Ravyn sent me 20 eggs. I gave 9 to Frieda and 11 to the Brinsea. At the first candling (day 7 for the Brinsea and day 10 for Frieda--that being the only candling while they were under her) There were a combined 3 clears, though I left them all at that point.

Day 18, Frieda had all hers 'cause I like my hands not to hurt... Locked down 6 in the Brinsea. On the borderline between Days 19 and 20, a BCM hatched. Day 21, 1 Sulmtaler. Later in Day 21, another.  So 3 hatched of 6 locked down in the Brinsea.

Frieda probably would've done better, but weather intervened. I'd forgotten that there's a leak above the nestbox she'd laid claim to, and there was a storm Sunday night (middle of Day 21). Everything got soaked, and sitting on cold, wet, wet eggs in a cold nest made Frieda unbroody (my theory as to why she quit, at any rate). I brought them in the house and, when they'd warmed up to room temp and I had a chance to candle them, I put the 6 best looking eggs in (some had drawn down before they got cold...). Had I thought to candle the eggs that were already in the incubator, I would've had room for 1 more, but oh, well. I candled again last night--except for the seeping egg. I eliminated 1 of the whole-time-in-the-incubator eggs and 4 of Frieda's eggs, leaving me 2 of each. One of Frieda's eggs hatched tonight, and I'll be taking it out to the heating pad brooder in the morning. If there aren't any pips by then (and I don't think there will be) I'm turning the incubator off.
%
So, from set, 4 out of 20. From lockdown, 3 of 6. From Frieda, 1 of 9. If you count last night as a mini-lockdown of Frieda's eggs, 1 of 2. If you want to count everything that's been in the incubator from Day 18 and mini-lockdown, that'd be 4 of 8. No matter how you do it, 50% is the absolute best, with cheating.

At least you got a few chicks!! :hugs
What happened to the other eggs besides the 3 clear? Did they die from getting cold?

chick #3 just hatched!

I was really hoping you'd have the chicks by now!! Can no one tell you where they are? In my experience, the people who work there only know what we know, which is what the tracking shows. And if someone screwed up scanning and the tracking info is incorrect then they have no other info to offer on the phone. What gets me is that this is an express delivery with live chicks, totally unacceptable! Please keep us posted! :hugs

Been busy getting locked and my new gig as ambassador to Israel.
Hi everybody :frow

The chicks have arrived - after I called the 1 800 number, waited on hold forever, got someone, told them they were going to die if I didn't get them today, and the person opened up some sort of thing to find them. However, it is not happy news :( The seller did all she could - they had two heat packs and a cup of grogel. The heat packs had gone cold, since it has been over 72 hours since they were shipped. The cup of grogel was flipped upside down with all the grogel still in it, so the chicks couldn't eat it. This tells me that their box was flipped around at one point.

Unfortunately most of them were DOA. I'm trying to bring a couple back from the brink of death, but they're looking rough. One died as I was trying to revive them already.
