She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hey y'all, I have a ?, when I went to feed up this morning, all of my Welsummers but 1 chick was gone. There were feathers everywhere, no remains and whatever it was had dug in under the fence and apparently drug the chickens out of the run through the tunnel it had dug. My question is what would have taken 5 full grown Welsummers and a 2 month old cockrel? It's either a small coyote, dog or fox, it left 1 small paw print behind. And either before or after it got them, it tried to get 2 of my Silkies but couldn't get in. My dogs, my husband and I never heard or saw anything and our bedroom window was partially opened. We have a surveillance camera trained on the run but it has no sound and it doesn't record.

So sorry to hear that! Racoon, weasle, Bob cat or lynx sound likely if the hole is on the narrow side.

Chick update: I do so far have two survivors. One was the one that looked the worst out of the three alive ones. It was stone cold, not moving (I only knew it was alive because I happened to see it twitch just barely) and its bowels had released all over it - something that happens when animals die. For the first hour it just laid under the heat lamp, barely moving. When it did get up, it kept falling over backwards. When it got a little better, it would try to stand, and then start turning circles instead until it fell over. I really thought it was going to die, but it has pulled through and is now eating and drinking. I have become pretty attached to the little thing, although I keep referring to it to myself as the poopy chick, which I need to stop before it sticks and becomes its name. The poor thing had a rough enough start to life, it doesn't also need to be named that!

The other was well enough to peep at the post office, but not still not in good shape. When the PO lady called she said the box was peeping so that got my hopes up but it was just the one, which I could hear when I got there. That one was much easier to get back in better shape.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for them.

I'm so sorry about the ones you lost and all the trouble this package went through! At least you've got two fluffy butts! Your post made me laugh about the name!!

@AmyLynn2374 I think it's because of the winter, not as many hatches going on now. At least that's what I hope. ;)

That's what I said. Come on, spring!

:hugs so sorry! I dug the hardware cloth at least six inches under and out and did a double layer along the bottom (on the outside and inside of the run). Update when you get the fox. :fl

Amy, the past church, as well as the inlaw issues are reason enough to want to move.  Make it far enough that the in-laws can't just hop in the car and be on your doorstep for an impromptu!  They need a lesson in diplomacy with married children.  Perhaps you and hubby could embarrass the day lights out of them some time???

X2!

Silly question. .. what is a parade?
Im so sorry about your chicks.
I told DH I want to bury razor wire under the fencing.

My last hatch this summer, SC said that if I got a 90% hatch that he would "throw me a parade". I got 100%, so he threw me a parade...lol He did a great job and it became a "thing". Just a bunch of celebratory pics/gifs and usually with a bit of humorous user specific jokes added in. It is the one thing I hold him in high regards for- his penchant for putting together things like that. So he set his standards for when he would "throw a parade" for hatchers, and if a hatcher met that standard he would put it together.

Since it is left to me to continue with, I want to set the standards to a more reasonable range.

Does that mean any new parades will have an (*) beside them?

So when I bought these two hens, the owner gave me a bag of Southern States Rock-N-Rooster Premium Five Grain Scratch. It's basically a high end chicken scratch. My local feed store does not carry it and I loved it. So I decided to make my own. I bought regular chicken scratch, BOSS, corn, hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds. I'm also planning on mixing in some dried mealworms, when my next order comes in. They went crazy over it today! And I'm going to try adding some to my fermented feed as well.

Looks great! I bought a different brand the last time and it looked more like your mix. I can't remember which brand, and I think it was a little more expensive, but its nice and they love it.

Sounds yummy; almost makes me wish I was a chicken. Wonder what it would be like in a bowl of milk, like granola cereal.

Which makes me want to make a comment that would remind you of all the low regards
