You remember the boy that told you he couldn't get you pregnant on the "first time"?

But seriously, I think it only takes an egg cycle or two. I'm sure someone will correct me, if I'm wrong.

Good!!!! Trying to keep my incubator tegulated. We had a couple of 40 degree nights and I could not get it higher than 98.7 only at night and wrapped up in blankets.....now that it's back up to 50 60 degrees it's holding a steady range between 100.4 to 100.7. (Even with a fan I am following Sally's advice) ;)

Those are mostly campine and BO in that pic but it shows where i traced the cells better than the darker eggs. I think they look good, and i dont wanna mess w the system... The system yall have taught me works well...

Thanks for asking about the little chick, guys. The umbilical cord fell off and it seemed okay with that. It ended up having curly toes. I made it corrective shoes out of Band-Aids but some time between 5 and 7 this morning it died. I guess it just wasn't meant to survive after all.

Pics:

Sorry to hear that. At least you know that you tried everything you could to give it a fighting chance. You did good!

I'm trying to keep my multi-quotes in check. I wanted to quote everyone. Happy to hear your updates, Ross and BYC. And everyone else too!
That's excellent!! He may work out better then you ever imagined! Has he taken a liking to your dad?
Really, why?
You did everything you could! Without your help, it probably would have died in the shell. Try to remember that you gave it a chance at life. And it could have survived. Without you it wouldn't of had that chance. So don't give up on assisting in the future if the need arises.

No, not really any more than anyone else.

Awesome crock. What a find. How much does it hold???

Amy: I'm wondering if Buster is staying down stairs simply b/c he knows your Dad has issues. You might have an assist dog on your hands. So glad you gave him a home.

Agree with others: You did your best, and gave it a fighting chance. I'll never regret going in when it's evident that there's no way the chick can make it out on it's own. The tricky part is in knowing when the time to assist is right. Even to complete an assist and have to later cull, IMO is better than letting it struggle and die in shell. All odds have been in my favor with assists.
It just gets too hot upstairs at times when the pellet stove is running. Half the time I have to have a fan on myself or it will be too hot up here when it's ok down stairs. The first couple nights he tried sleeping up stairs, but he panted-alot. He like the bathroom, it's the coolest room in the house. I just think he's super sensative to the heat. I really think he was probably left outside as a yard ornament a good share of his life. When we first got him he wanted to be outside all the time, now he only wants to be outside if someone is out there with him...lol We walk him two or three times a day and he has a lead/runner that he goes on to potty. He won't poo during walks, only when put out on the runner.

I just said this to myself! I was going through all the photos in my phone and deleting a whole bunch (seems with digital photos, I take a million shots for each photo...unlike with film, how I'd just try to take one good shot, remember?), anyway I saw all of my hatching pics and really had the urge to shop for eggs!
Really???? What kind??
If I wanted to search eBay, what would I type in to find one just like this?
I was going to ask if your roos learned to do the job yet, but then I saw this.....

My oldest female is exactly 6 months and I just saw my younger cockerel (who is a nice young man) successfully mate her!! They did a great job for about 10 seconds!!! No squawking or anything. She just let him do his thing and he was good about it. So....if she ever decides to lay an egg, it should be fertile, right??
and YAY!!!!!

Should be, but just depends on when she lays the egg, Ruby... if it's over 3 weeks and he doesn't mate her again, it might not... but since he has started, most likely he'll continue...

So, BBS should not have this color... first time ever, I had a partridge chick hatch...

Haven't met a male yet that didn't "continue" once he started....lol

You remember the boy that told you he couldn't get you pregnant on the "first time"?

Exactly my Problem! :lau and its still not a Black egg :hit i want Black eggs!

I want black eggs too!!

:thumbsup
Tomorrows egg, or maybe the next day... ;)

How am I possibly going to resist the urge to set a small number of eggs??? Seriously. I mean it's easier to talk myself out of shipped eggs because of the money and risk but free eggs, from my backyard!...this is going to be impossible!

I didn't know you set again! What kind, how many?
