She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Everything is going well. We decided to rescue another dog. So now we have 2 cats, 3 dog, 22 chickens, and 16 eggs in an incubator. Loll!!!!

overall everything going well!

What a houseful! So fun.

I would think you'd be warm too. But I guess 6 hours makes a big difference when it's north, huh? I will go outside and try! ;)
I so so so wish we all lived close enough to stop in and see each other's eggs and help each other at hatch time and with chicks, etc.
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm thinking they were to cold. It's seems to much of a coincidence that they died the first night out. What were your temps last night? Did you have them outside during the day to sorta gradually introduce them to the colder temps?
Those chicks are beyond adorable!! I love them! I put an ad on CL for a cockerel and had so many people contact me for females. I sold all my girls I had available. Even had someone offer me $50 for another one but I needed to keep her. I was really surprised how fast they all went.
No way!!! That's so sad. :hugs Why do you think they died? Just got too cold? Or dehydrated? My Aunt is a driver for fed ex and she has delivered chicks. I think they are much more strict about packages being on time (I'm sure more $ too). Why do most of us use usps only for live chicks/birds? (I just learned why for eggs, lol).
That's what I thought too. I'm hoping it's just that she got chilled. There still isn't much improvement though. The temp lastnight was mid 50's according to the AccuWeather on my phone. Yes, I put her out earlier in the day, it was fairly warm that dayn probably mid 60's but it dipped down in the forties at night the 1st night, lastnight was fairly decent. They have a heat lamp but the only place I could clip it was to the roof and it's about a foot and a half above the floor, it's a 100 watt bulb.

Not a good idea... UPS doesn't actually allow shipping of eggs, so insurance means nada...
Oh, ok. I'll tell her to ship them USPS.

Had something else entirely typed before I saw Ravyn's post. Any chance of picking them up? How far can it be?
After the last trip up there my hubby has said heck no to another trip up there, lol. It's a 3 and a half hour ride 1 way. That's also Thanksgiving weekend so we'll have family over. I think I'll just have her do USPS.

I got some food into the sick chick. I mixed water with the chick starter and mushed it up real good and put it in a syringe and just kept slowly putting dabs on her tongue. I'm hoping it'll give her some energy and help her pull through.

so they should be able to do  75 degrees maybe 70 . how about drafts are they able to get completely out of the wind into a place where it stays 70 degrees ? you have had several frost its cold up there keep them warm . think I would go to a 250 watt bulb .

HI chooks I thank you Ravyn thanks you .I need to take progressive pictures . a lot of chicks get ugly as they get older but not these . I have two and four week old chicks and I really like them its like they glow under the heat lamps .
Yea, I told hubby to get a 250 watt red bulb tonight. It probably stays close to 70 in there. After that fox hit and took all my Welsummers I've been locking everyone up, so at night I screw a piece of plywood to the front of their "coop" (old dog house, lol) that covers the doorway so there's no drafts and they sleep on an old sweatshirt I tossed in there cause I was out of shavings at the time so they don't sleep on the cold floor.

Sounds like my house, lol, we have 3 dogs, a rabbit, a pot belly pig and we HAD 22 chickens til that dam fox took 6 of them so now we're down to 16.

Hubby had the truck tonight so I couldnt get to the store to get the Corid, so I told hubby to get some on his way home but he didn't make it in time, they closed right before he got there. So now I have to wait til tomorrow to get the Corid. I hope the little 1 makes it through the night. She woke a little bit ago long enough to poop. It was strange. Really white, runny pop with a little tiny bit of solid poop mixed in. Then she went right back to sleep.

With any luck you will have a good hatch. I have never been able to file a claim with USPS. only had two cracked eggs .I have and will always believe with the exception of one batch of eggs the bad hatches have been on my head and my junk incubators. but others have been having bad luck recently .everyone has to consider this is a very busy time of year for all shipping companies . five weeks till Christmas . they should be on the road no later than tomorrow with the outgoing mail.

@RubyNala97

If you go back to post 29135, I added something to my reply to you that you might also want to check out.

I didn't even see your post. Thank you so much! I will definitely look that up.

They might have an insurance option, idk on that part, just that USPS is the only one with preset procedures... and the cost of fedex is a bit more, lol...

Hit submit before I was done, lol... a couole states are pretty laid back on the live shipping, but as the shipper you gotta check out the state you are shipping to as well... they can refuse to allow it across state line and then it gets returned, which risks a dead bird... :/

Yeah, it's good for me getting birds but I don't know about shipping them. I want to ship my cockerel to WV, have to find out if she found out the details on her state yet?.......@WVduckchick

Honestly the mph was so amazing for my chicks. I moved them outside at 3 weeks old and the first night was 36 degrees. They did great! Check it out:

also, maybe you can put a thermometer out there and run out and check it before bed to see what the temps are.
