She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I am so glad I live in the south. I had my fill of cold in the uk, I don't think it got that cold though. I even have my stove on down here I would not survive up there. Brrrr!

Dear goodness! You need to move closer to me... if we get cold it's dry cold and snow usually doesn't stay for more than a few hours... feathered feet get mucky, but you don't have to free range. Come on over!
I really want to move to Texas. If I could move anywhere, that's where I would head. On top of being warmer and not usually snowy....lol, they have no homeschool regs. NY is one of the top 5 restrictive homeschool states and I would love to be in a state with less reporting and no testing schedules. Don't get me wrong, I would still test for our knowledge and to know where we are comparitively, but it would be on our time table.

I tried getting one of my kids home schooled but the district would not release him because the sposnoring school district for the program would get the funding for my kid instead of the district we live in. He's still having problems and all they want done us to drug him instead of giving him an environment he can actually learn in... that being said, maybe come be my neighbor after the kids are raised! Lol

A school district in any state can NOT restrict you from homeschooling unless a homeschool familly/child does not fulfill the requirements of the states' homeschool regs. With that being said if you homeschool, most states do not provide any special help or programs for children that need it. It falls upon the family to provide that at their expense. That is one of the nice things with homeschooling. I've read many homeschool blogs/articles of people with special needs children, especially autism and ADD/ADHD that because they taught at home were able to keep their children off the drugs that are often prescribed to "control" them. I have mixed feelings about them myself.

It has it's challenges, but overall, for us anyway, it's worth it so far. My child will melt down if you even mention going back to public school...lol As long as I am able health/time/financially, I plan to continue with it.

I wish I could afford a lawyer. That's crud. I had every single piece of documentation into the online home school, and just needed to get my kid off the public school's roster, they would not sign off on it.

Oh my goodness....so so cute!!! How's the hatch going?

So....all those eggs in the bator were dead. Nothing is growing at all.! :( time for a redo!

That's terrible! I'm sorry! :hugs

Congrats to you and all the others that are hatching. Nice Valentine's presents. :)
Sorry to hear that.

So, it is officially colder in upstate NY than in Alaska today. At 7 am it was 35 degrees BELOW zero. Which is 10-15 degrees lower than the reports projected. All my chickens are still alive so far. My big boy, Willie has some frostbite on his big ole comb that I am having to take care of, other than that, they don't look too bad, but I feel so bad for them. Gonna treat them today to try to make up for the cold. Maybe some nice warm oatmeal.

It's disgustingly cold outside! I moved the young girl inside with my hen that's apprently going broody. (I'm considering giving her some eggs tomorrow when it warms up.) Supposed to be 30's-50's all week...thank god!

Then I went outside to bring fresh water and two young cockerels were fighting. They always fight a little, so I didn't think anything of it. Next time I went out to check on them, there was blood everywhere!! Apprently one of them got their butt kicked. I brought him in and he was gushing blood from the comb. But it was freezing as it was coming out. I cleaned him up and I just bought this spray the other day, called vetricyn (or something like that), so I was prepared. I put him downstairs with the girls, since everyone was pecking at the blood. Why do they have to pull this crap when it's so cold?! I've been bundling up and making trips out there all day! What are signs of frostbite??

And I just got back from the feed store because I caved and bought a farm innovators heated water dish. It's supposed to work in freezing temps, so :fl
I couldn't keep up!

So adorable! Look like little penguins. Is hatch over? How'd it go?

That's when you contact the HSLDA http://www.hslda.org/ They are THE homeschool lawyer group (and their yearly fees are reasonable too so if you are a homeschooler and have any problems, you are covered they will handle everything.) I have never had a problem so far with my school district and I don't know how they work with the virtual schools online, cause NY doesn't have that yet, but I do know that at this time, a school system can NOT keep you from homeschooling as long as your state's requirements are met and you can prove that they are met. Now they can deny you if your IHIPS do not agree with their requirements, or your curriculum does not fulfill their requirements, (providing you are in a state that require IHIPS or the equivelant.)

Here we send a letter of intent to the school district, they send us IHIPS, you either fill them out or turn in your own form of IHIPS and they have 2 weeks to okay it or deny it. If they deny it they have to allow you to ammend it to fulfill the requirements that it lacks. If you feel you meet the requirements and they don't, then you contact the HSLDA. I plan on joining HSLDA at some point, but have not as of yet.

In Texas, you don't even have to notify them unless you are pulling your children from the public school system, then you need to let them know you are homeschooling. No quarterlies, no test schedules.
