I don't plan on doing any more large hatches. I did a full bator last year and had 33 hatch, and the broodiing was a pain...lol Way too many too keep track of. If I ever get to the point that I am hatching to sell as "day old" straight run chicks, then I'd do it, but not for myself. I'd rather do a dozen or two, at a time and do more more hatches per season than do one or two big hatches. I've also found that the few the chicks the more personable they see to be. My two highest hatch rates were the two that I hand turned. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but I'm keeping with it. Less adjusting at lockdown when the turner is taken out too and the bator looses the heat from the turner motor. In other incubators it may not make a big difference but I really notice it in the LG 9200.More capacity with hand turning
Can't blame you there
I can't be around to turn them, unfortunately
I was fooling with the idea of putting the eggs on cheesecloth, and just pulling the cloth to turn them.
Leave both ends hanging out the bator with one end longer than the other, so you know which way to turn/pull.
Ain't tried it tho
I know I want to do the silkie hatch and maybe I'll throw in 3 or 4 of my bantam eggs when I do that. I want to either attempt to figure out which of my eggs are the Spitz's or get another dozen from the girl I got these from. And I really want to find some decent SG eggs. I'll probably throw 1/2 a dozen of my ee/nn eggs in there at some point as well to try to get a couple more olive/green eggers. My father really likes the green ones. They have huge dark yolks.
