I am hatching speckled sussex, shipped eggs. They are pop corn chicks. One hatched 3 zipping, 3 pipped and 2 left to pip.

The person I was going to swap turkey eggs for EEs with had an issue...hunting dog ate the eggs.  So back to square zero.

I'm sorry!! That sucks!

I'm gonna talk to OH tonight to see how many boxes we can ship...

By the way, 40 is too high for my silkie eggs.  Been running 25-30 and they are still too big.  Didn't lock down this morning, waiting until this evening.  (Not that an extra 8 hours is going to do much)

Yes!!!! I have one out, the last 2 have pipped...so...out of the 4 chicken eggs I got from Turk one quit and the others are in the process of hatching now ... one is malposition so I am watching it.

Shoulda seen when that idjit lost an egg auction to me... butthurt doesn't even come close...
Where is Ruby??? I swear she said she did her shipped Silkies at 40 and that was her best hatch...

And yep, the Moon's are much more graceful than the others... especially for their size... snood on mine is bigger too, but I am still going with girl, lol...

So, could I have gotten a pure heritage? That would explain why the one is much smaller... looks similar in color too, I think... gotta get pics...

Today is day 9 and I'm planning on checking all eggs today in the classroom, since I didn't get a chance to look at more than a few before I was crowded by kids on Monday morning The 2 I looked at were clear though, if they're still clear today I should toss them right? I need to see veining and possibly a dark spot, correct? (I've looking at the candling threads and pictures, trying to get an idea since I won't know what I'm looking for until I see it with my own eyes!)

Fingers crossed the other 4 look good--one is a dark colored one so I might not be able to see anything.

5 of the 7 were clear, but 2 were growing!! The dark egg was hard to see, but the dark space inside was similar to the other egg that was good, so I'm just going to keep it in there.

We even saw the chick MOVE inside the lighter egg which was so awesome. I'm going to candle it tomorrow for the kids to see. How long can I keep the egg out of the incubator? We have to run across the hallway to an under the stairs storage room to be able to see anything, and we can probably only fit 7ish kids in there with me, so I'll need to do 3 groups. If I just rush them all through in about 5 minutes is that ok? Or should I space them out and put the egg back after every group for a little bit?

No because I have eggs hatching now that were in there also and the duck eggs are doing great! So I don't think that has anything to do with it. It's working hold proper temp and humidity.
