She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Oh, I can't wait to see pics of those. I have a couple of hens that I bought from a feed store, and they are so pretty and the sweetest birds.

I'll get more pics when they fluff up.

Here is OG's first baby, a Moon (Dark Gray) turkey. He's going to be a BIG boy.

For a turkey with some BBB genes, he is quite refined and very graceful.

His snood is growing, further supporting "male"

The gang...the result of two toms, 6 hens = six poults and 4 phenotypes. Yes, I got a white turkey out of OG and a BBB. This one is a hen and she will be a breeder next year.

Heritage turkey is considerably smaller than the half heritage sibling next to it.

Gorgeous! Awesome job.

I kinda get a female feel from that second pic, but I'm sure your guess is better than mine!

Gotta admit, that was a fun read :gig
Shoulda seen when that idjit lost an egg auction to me... butthurt doesn't even come close... :gig
Yeah!! Any progress this morning?? Congrats on the ducks too. That's awesome. By the way, 40 is too high for my silkie eggs. Been running 25-30 and they are still too big. Didn't lock down this morning, waiting until this evening. (Not that an extra 8 hours is going to do much) :jumpy :weee :thumbsup :fl waiting till this evening to lock mine down. Probably 30 quail and 8 silkie/cochin. Oh, good news, I've got at least half of the quail sold, she will pick up when they are 2 days old.
Where is Ruby??? I swear she said she did her shipped Silkies at 40 and that was her best hatch... Glad you're getting the quail sold... sorry for the welcher... :/

Gorgeous!! :love And yep, the Moon's are much more graceful than the others... especially for their size... snood on mine is bigger too, but I am still going with girl, lol... :fl So, could I have gotten a pure heritage? That would explain why the one is much smaller... looks similar in color too, I think... gotta get pics...
I am hatching speckled sussex, shipped eggs. They are pop corn chicks. One hatched 3 zipping, 3 pipped and 2 left to pip.
:jumpy

Yes, one pen has OG and one BBB hen and two heritage hens, the other pen has heritage Narragansett with gray toms and one BBB and two heritage hens. So it's perfectly possible you may end up with Narragansett, Red Bronze, or Bronze from the second pen, some of them will be mixed color with a single dose of broad breasted and the others will be mixed color heritage. There is a huge size difference but even more so a weight difference, the BBB lines have solid filled bones rather than the hollow flight bones of a heritage bird. The crosses inherit the heavier bone structure. You can tell within a day or two of hatch, the BB crosses will weigh much more and will have thicker legs.

Thanks, Walnut... that makes me feel better... she is eating, drinking and active, just a lot smaller, so I thought it was just due to genes... just that little bit of second guessing since this is a first... :)
