She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Wow. He's something else isn't he?
See that's one of the reasons I want to have a couple pure bred breeds. (Pure bred breeds??

) Anyhow.... I still love my mixed just as much, but now that I pretty much have my laying flock established, (and they are doing very well) I have no reason to hatch more. If I have a couple lines of pure breed chickens then I will have an excuse to hatch if I can sell chicks. It's an enabling technique...lol I don't see alot of quality silkies around here, (I think everyone buys theirs from TSC) so I'm hoping if I can get a decent hatch with Ruby's eggs to be able to be a provider of a better quality silkie for my area. And the spitz are rare too. I mostly see RIRs and Orpingtons.

The Spitz are pretty cool. Didn't really like them at first, but have grown on me. You really should get on those SG's though!! I bet they would sell like hotcakes.

I was selling chicks pretty good last year, usually managed to sell everything I hatched by the time they were 3 months old. This year, with the purebreds, I have a waiting list to sell as soon as they hatch. That's a better profit because I never have to feed them or take up space in the pens

That's what I want to do.

That's awesome. And I am not even looking at it from a business standpoint- I just want a reason to hatch!!!!! lol
You sell straight run, right?
Yes, and that's another nice thing about the purebreds. Those customers will buy straight run. Most people buying just a few for eggs want pullets. That's why I like Marans. They are 100% sexable by 4-6 weeks. I have good guesses at 2 weeks

I don't know about the SG's as a revenue up here. lol Everyone thinks nns and SGs are ugly!!!

I still want them for myself though. I just need to either find someone with decent established SGs to get eggs from, or wait until I get a quality silkie roo I can breed my F1 back to. Thing is though I really don't want to start a line with my F1 cause her bow ties is real big.

Today is day 9 and I'm planning on checking all eggs today in the classroom, since I didn't get a chance to look at more than a few before I was crowded by kids on Monday morning :) The 2 I looked at were clear though, if they're still clear today I should toss them right? I need to see veining and possibly a dark spot, correct? (I've looking at the candling threads and pictures, trying to get an idea since I won't know what I'm looking for until I see it with my own eyes!)

Fingers crossed the other 4 look good--one is a dark colored one so I might not be able to see anything.

Once you see a good one for sure, you should easily know about the others. Except of course for dark colored eggs. They are tough to tell sometimes.

But yes, by day 9, you should definitely see something, as long as your light is bright enough. And don't forget fresh batteries!

Get a batch going, then after your 7 day candle you will have an idea how many you have. Put up an ad that says "hatching soon" with a picture of the parents, and a chick pic if you have one. I did that with the AMs and had to take the ad down after a week when the waiting list got up to 6 weeks. My Easter hatch will fill the last order, so I will put up another ad about a week before that

Here is OG's first baby, a Moon (Dark Gray) turkey. He's going to be a BIG boy.

For a turkey with some BBB genes, he is quite refined and very graceful.

His snood is growing, further supporting "male"

The gang...the result of two toms, 6 hens = six poults and 4 phenotypes. Yes, I got a white turkey out of OG and a BBB. This one is a hen and she will be a breeder next year.

Heritage turkey is considerably smaller than the half heritage sibling next to it.
