No hints? It's much easier for us to get along now that the bar is open![]()
Locked down 20 AMs last night![]()
How many are you keeping?Yeah!! Any progress this morning??
Congrats on the ducks too. That's awesome.
By the way, 40 is too high for my silkie eggs. Been running 25-30 and they are still too big. Didn't lock down this morning, waiting until this evening. (Not that an extra 8 hours is going to do much)

waiting till this evening to lock mine down. Probably 30 quail and 8 silkie/cochin.![]()
Oh, good news, I've got at least half of the quail sold, she will pick up when they are 2 days old.
How many are you keeping?
I'm thinking none.![]()
Kinda changed my tune when my OEGB's and Sebrights started laying. And with hubby being out of commission for a while, building pens would be a chore. I could handle it, but I'd rather focus on the bantams now.
My sister in law is going to take most of the current quail, and I listed the ones due to hatch this weekend. Can't believe I never heard back from the jerk I was hatching them for originally.![]()
Left egg is a normal golden comet egg. Other two came from my new banty layers. One Golden Sebright and one SDW OEGB. I separated them yesterday, so I know for sure which ones are laying now.

Now wasn't that the same guy that you did the first quail eggs that you hatched from and it took forever to contact him after the hatch?![]()
Wow. He's something else isn't he?Yes ma'am. Unbelievable huh? I should have never set this 3 dozen.
Also just got a hit on my ad for LO eggs. But she wants chicks instead of eggs. So maybe I'll get to hatch more..![]()
I was selling chicks pretty good last year, usually managed to sell everything I hatched by the time they were 3 months old. This year, with the purebreds, I have a waiting list to sell as soon as they hatch. That's a better profit because I never have to feed them or take up space in the pensWow. He's something else isn't he?
See that's one of the reasons I want to have a couple pure bred breeds. (Pure bred breeds??) Anyhow.... I still love my mixed just as much, but now that I pretty much have my laying flock established, (and they are doing very well) I have no reason to hatch more. If I have a couple lines of pure breed chickens then I will have an excuse to hatch if I can sell chicks. It's an enabling technique...lol I don't see alot of quality silkies around here, (I think everyone buys theirs from TSC) so I'm hoping if I can get a decent hatch with Ruby's eggs to be able to be a provider of a better quality silkie for my area. And the spitz are rare too. I mostly see RIRs and Orpingtons.
That's awesome. And I am not even looking at it from a business standpoint- I just want a reason to hatch!!!!! lolI was selling chicks pretty good last year, usually managed to sell everything I hatched by the time they were 3 months old.
