She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I HAVE AN INTERNAL PIP!! (Yes, I did need all caps for that

)

One egg is had a shell too dark to see, but the other one has an internal pip I could see when I candled today (day 22), and the chick was breathing and we saw the beak open a bit. How long should I let it be like that? Should I poke a hole with a pin into the air cell tomorrow morning if no external pip?

I'm so relieved, and it gives me more hope for the dark shell one (but I have 2 chicks being picked up on Thursday, so if only 1 hatches, it won't be lonely)

I don't "poke holes" but there are some that do.

Ok, I'm holding back. Not intervening. The chick is fine and doing what it needs to do. First time hatching so I'm all nervous something is going to go terrible wrong. Deep breaths here.

The teacher called me this morning and said the chick hatched during the night! I'm sad the kids all missed it, but so happy. There is 1 more egg in there but I'm unsure if it was even viable, it's such a dark egg. I'll post pictures later today!

Yay!!! That's awesome!! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you and the kids!

So I found one of the broody's chicks dead this afternoon! I'm not sure why it died but I've been concerned that they are not eating and drinking enough. Mama always spills the food and fills the water with shavings. I took the other 3 babies away and put them in a brooder. I never see them eating. Will she be ok that I took her babies? Will the babies be ok? Should I just put her back with the flock? I don't know what to do! They are 2 & 1/2 weeks old and are extremely small for their age.

I no nothing about broodies, since mine was a murderer and I had to take the chick. Hopefully others will chime in.

At least this way you can evaluate their eating, drinking and pooping to rule out those causes in the death of the other.

I don't know, I just moved them and they are standing there like "what's going on". I haven't see them eat or drink yet. Think taking them is the right thing?

You did the right thing... those babies are way too small for their age... put her back with the flock, she'll be fine... monitor them and get vites in their water...

Silkies are great broody setters, but honestly I've only had 2 that were good mommas... they tend to be clumsy and not as aware of issues as others... jmo... :fl
