She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So I'm up in the middle of the night because one of my eggs is finally starting to zip. As I'm sitting here watching, the already hatched chick, in the incubator right next to it, is pecking at the window like crazy! She's begging me to take her out. It's been almost 12 hours she has been in there. But another egg in there is pipped?? Is it ok to open the incubator and take her out if there are other pips? Ok, back to staring at a beak through a whole!

I'm always up in the middle of the night so can keep you company. I like to keep my humidity 33-44% if possible. I have to add a good amount of water to do that lol. If I added none I'd be in the 20s. I think it would be fine to open it a brief couple seconds to grab the begging chick. :)

Baby #1 meets baby #2 through the incubators!! It's 3:00am and only 10 more eggs to go! ;)
400

#2 is very sticky. He has little pieces of egg stuck on him (is that ok?) and he's fogging up the incubator. Why so sticky?
(He's a buff silky and you can really see his color!)

don't know why the chicks so sticky but should dry off ok. If the incubator is foggy it has too much humidity.

So when running dry where do yall like your humidity? Mine is between 23-28% this is day two of the 28 day haul for ducks and turkeys
I prefer 30-35%. I only run completely dry if my incubator holds at least 25%. If it doesn't I add a wet sponge and that usually holds it right at 30%.

Hey, Ruby!! Have you gotten any sleep yet????? lol Oh boy, I feel for you. I really do...lol Now, you know it depends on who you ask that question to as to what answer you are going to get....lol. I am going to say, "Free the chick!!!!" SC is going to say, "Leave him, he's fine." lol Do what is comfy for you. Your humidity in that little thing will bounce right back up so if you want to free him, go for it! (You probably already have....lol)

It could be a matter of that particular egg didn't loose as much moisture as the rest. Would also explain why your bator is fogging up.

Thanks yall. Mine is holding around 28%. I have seen it at 23. I'll add a sponge later and see what it does

I'm going to go back and quote posts individually, but you picked up the two I was going to be serious about, so I will comment here.
For fowlingaround, does dry incubation work for ducks? I have zero experience with them, but it seems like everything I have read says they need even higher humidity than chickens.

For Ruby, Amy nailed it. I would leave it, but it's totally up to you. A little sticky with egg shell is fine, and my Brinsea fogs during the hatch. That mini is so small that it doesn't surprise me at all, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong

You need to get talking, we fell to three yesterday.

It's you guyses fault

No one was here, so I was helping the candy stripers stay on top
Which do you think is more SC?

The monkey, no doubt. Poor fella, he was just playing. Maybe the overly sensitive shepherd was having a bad day

Well, I had to check on a few of my eggs. And lookie... #14 has feathers! I bet its gonna be a frizzle

Judging by that picture, I think your frizzle theory is quite possibly correct. I've never seen feathers that defined

This is where Amy and I have our biggest differences. She would take it out and play a video. I would leave it to encourage the others. I used to take the first few out early, and as soon as I did the hatching slowed way down

Fog is more common in a Brinsea, and I'm assuming even more so in the Mini.
Lebanon, MO? A lot of my chickens came from there. I have had great success with Murray McMurray chicks. That's where my spectacular polish rooster came from
