She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Good morning! I'll have to check out that interview later Amy Lynn :)
I was up early to get my son off to a field trip and decided to check bator and brooder, of course, instead of going back to bed. The two that had not fluffed up last night got removed from the bator and tagged with zip ties and put in brooder. All rest in brooder are doing well except the one with the crooked neck. I put Nutri Drench in their water but I'm thinking I'll need to treat it several times a day since it can't get around well on its own. I read about a Vitamin E and selenium protocol somewhere, is that what you guys would recommend?

In the bator 2 chicks hatched overnight, one from a CL egg (Marans roo) and the other from a brown egg, not sure if Marans or Wellie yet. Their was a Marans egg (purchased) that had zipped and stopped. I decided to help it and am glad I did! It seems like it got its head to the inside somehow and it got stuck. I was afraid it was tiring out so I'm glad I helped it when I did. I have a Wellie egg in the bator that I think got stuck after zipping and I don't see breathing on that one. So here's the one I assisted.

in the past three days, we have gotten three new requests for chicks.......

so I'm going to buy 36 eggs, and then set 12 of ours.......maybe it's time to buy another Hovabator.......

Yay!

I'm about 2/3 through my first hatch and I'm already planning on picking up eggs to set Monday. That will probably be the last for the year. Not sure how this hatch is going to end up. I have 14 out so far of the 22 that went into lock down.

I have helped them out when they were like that. You just have to be really careful. You can use a washcloth and warm water to help unstick em. Then you can wash them in soap and water after you get them out. Good luck. I shut the bators down today. After high demand last year, it seems no one on Craigslist wants anything to do with chickens this year, or eggs. But here are some chick pics, guys! Beautiful! Love to see more pics of them grown. The Wyandotte is gorgeous!

Good job!! He was ready to come out. You can tell by how clear the membrane is inside the egg. Hope the rest hatch easily for you!

That's what I have heard for wry neck too, but I have not had to deal with that yet.

Congrats on the hatchers!

VERY CLEAN EGG, good job...

Ive had to deal with Wry neck, not fun, it's sooo horrible to watch them, it seems like they are in a lot of pain. But once they recover WHAT a JOY.....

I'm planning on setting some Silver/Grey Silkie chickens. Anyone have this color???

Beautiful.
Not sure why it's not quoting your hatch report, but great job! Sounds like a very good hatch! Especially on the shipped Silkie eggs!

I think we're going on Sunday evening to pick up some Sizzle eggs but I may get a combo and get some Silkie too. I'm not setting very many, these are mainly for my kids but I will enjoy them too. I'm just worried about them being predator savvy where we are. I am also picking up a dozen Dominique eggs and won't have to have them shipped since I found an APA judge locally that breeds and shows them and they're beauties! I was planning on having them shipped in until someone referred me to him. I also was planning on getting some Barnie eggs, had the breeder lined up and she said to contact her a couple of weeks before I wanted them and I've tried 2x and haven't heard - so no Barnies this time. Just as well, since we'll have plenty of chicks. I still want some Barnies though!

This hatch has not gone quite as well as I had hoped, although we're not done yet. I am hoping that I can correct my mistakes and get a good hatch for these next, all purchased, eggs!

Oh it doesn't quote me half the time...lol It doesn't want to hear what I say...lol

Good luck!! I love these little silkies! I think we ended up with 3 paints, 4 whites, 3 silver/gray and 2 blackish that maybe partridge.

This is such a beautiful chick - half Wheaten or Blue Wheaten Ameraucana (mom) and half Black Copper Marans and it came out sort of a yellow and amber color with eyeliner - I definitely want to see it grow out. I'll post a pic when I can get a good one. Another hatched out from this same cross that is yellow with some black spots - looks like someone dabbed it with a paintbrush! That one is doing great and alert. The rest so far are mostly black, 2 that are same cross as above are really downy with big muffs and have a brownish tone to them, they will be interesting too. One is hatching from an Ameraucana egg now that looks to have some yellow down. I was expecting all to be mostly black, so I'm happy!

What a great variety! Even though Silkies and any bantams really weren't on my list for practical reasons, I know I'm going to love them :)
